Hey, I'm doing this from my Mom's account and this is my first time doing this so... wish me luck :)
My name is Caitlyn and like everyone else on this forum, I'm a teenager. I was diagnosed with Crohn's about five days before my 11th birthday and have been having trouble with it since it began. Since I live in St.Louis, I don't have very many options. I went to NYC to see a specialist and he started me on methotrexate which seemed to put me in remission for about 2 months. :( I was able to go to sleep away camp this year without problems :) but nothing seems to be working for me. I have tried remicade, 6mp imuran, methotrexate, prednisone, humira, etc. I had a Steven Johnson reaction to the 6mp so I stopped that. I fainted on about my fourth dose of remicade so we stopped that too. In December of 2010, I got a bowl re-sectioning, that only helped for about three months. Don't get me wrong, the pain went from stabbing to a knot since then, but now the pain is back. :(
Right now I'm on Pentasa, prednisone, nexium, amytriptaline, florajin, and cefidnir (for pneumonia). I already missed the first 3 weeks of school because of this stupid pain. :sign0085:
My Mom wants to start me on this six week shake diet thats supposed to put your Crohn's in remission for about 10 years :eek2: anyone heard of it?
Thanks
Caitlyn :quack:

Hey Caitlyn (sorry I addressed you by the username in a different post, I hadn't seen this one first)

Sorry to hear you're not feeling too great and that things don't seem to be helping.
I'm from the UK so I'm not sure about the shakes.
I know we have something called Modulen (it's like a powder you make into a shake) here that is meant to be used in Crohn's for 6 weeks to hopefully induce remission but I don't know how effective it is or whether it's even available in the US. But I do know that liquid only diets can be very effective (really helped me when my Crohn's was most active) and so long as you get all the nutrients you need from the drinks you use, it tends to help the bowel rest a bit without being dangerous.

Hope things start to look up for you soon x

Hey :)
Really hope things improve for you soon youve had so much bad luck its time you got a break lol things can always get better just stay positive and dont get too stressed (if possible) stress just sets my crohns on fire.
And dont worry about missing school, stressing about it will just make things worse but i missed 6 months of school in my second year (over half of that school year) and even then it was possible to catch up and it didnt affect me at all in later years. U will have plenty of time to catch up so dont let missing school worry you too much. Hope things start going better for you soon :) you deserve it x

Thanks guys,
you really know how to make a person feel better :). I think my teachers are starting to get a little peeved about all the school I'm missing though 0.0. At this point I would kind of rather be in school then at home. My Mom talked to my doctor about the shakes, apparently I would have to get a tube in my stomach or an NG tube up my nose every night if I wanted to do it 0.0 I think right now I'm just gonna stick with the pentasa and the million other medicines. As long as I get to stay out of the OR.

Aww, you've really been through a lot. I can't offer much advice, but I hope you find something that puts you in remission soon, and don't worry about the teachers, your health comes way before what their annoyance right now!

heey, im sorry that you've been diagnosed with Crohns in that age. IM 17 and ive been diagnosed in July! I just got off from 8 weeks diet with Modulen IBD nutrition diet. ITs amazing, i dont have any abdominal pain as in the beginning, no diarrhea, nothing! i started with eating few days ago and there are no reactions to the food! Right now im on IMuran, pentasa and Controloc! Try Modulen if you can! It puts 90% people in a long remission.. If u have any questions just ask, im new with this disease too! WIsh you luck! THINK POSITIVE! thats the most important thing:)
