For those of you who have been reading how I've been looking after sore skin thinking it was bowel here's a pic! Sorry it's gross!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339302941.781353.jpg

Thanks for posting a pic... I must admit it was hard to imagine, at least now we know what you're talking about. I have to say though, that does not look like any stoma that I've ever seen!!! Again good luck with getting things sorted, I hope that you won't have to go through too much pain.

Kat

WOW! I hope you get that sorted out. When I first came home from the Hospital and the wound care nurse came to make sure i was ok with cleaning it and all, she told me that the hair would try and grow back and to use an electric razor otherwise I could get folicleitis, (I think that is what she said)

but with the stoma shrunk in like that, Id be flipping out .

Yeah it works like a champion sometimes really depends on his mood as to whether he fills the bag or fills the bum!!

Some comes out stoma some comes out bum don't forget it's a loop colostomy so everything is still connected surgeon has known for a good while that stool has been bypassing the stoma. I wouldve thought if any had been leaking into abdominal cavity I'd have been extremely unwell by this stage.

Sorry, I cant help but worry about you! You are a lovely guy and just deserve to be well! I want you ALL better!

Mind you feeling a bit shitty today sore head achy etc but maybe not related past caring sick to hell of it all. Ps sorry for wingeing.

I can really get that feeling as low as a slug. Best thing, go help someone else. Takes you out of 'yourself'. The loss of control of our bodies and life...its devastating. And you get very very tired of it all.

I'd go and visit a childrens ward in the hospital. Snapped me right out of it. If I cant get out of the house, I'd watch a very funny movie. Blazing Saddles always puts me stitches. Focus on anything but yourself. Because you really dont want to fall into that black hole. Or in your case, a very red bumpy hole! And there is no shame in asking for help from the Dr. I admit it, I am going to have to go myself for depression this week. I'm flat on the floor myself mate.

Hope your right mrs cos at the min im as low as a snakes belly! Aggh shut up man and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

It's ok man, let it out. We all care about you and want to see you get better. Don't go bottleing up your feelings because that is the worst you can do!

Thanks guys but from they've cut the base plates smaller tail end not producing much and I feel crap lol fuck this I've had enough.

Are you using convex wafers? They should help a great deal, but with a belt. It will force it out somewhat at least, hopefully.

Also, if you take Zantac (to suppress stomach acid), your skin won't get burned and it will allow it to heal faster.

Hunny no wonder you have been suffering!

You need to put your foot down and get seen asap. Like Misty said the extra stool has got to be going somewhere and its 'possible that some of it is going into your stomach.

Could be why you are feeling so crappy.
Hope you get sorted. Thinking of you Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well update time, just back from seeing colo-rectal surgeon, he is pleased with progress over all and wants to see MRI scan before we go further. He is keen to see if there is any obvious pockets of sepsis anywhere, if not I will be restarting the azathioprine, as far as the sunken stoma is concerned he wants to leave it as it is at the minute to see if things continue to pass ok via the tail end, he thinks the stoma output may continue to lessen and more of the stoma may heal over but that it won't cause any problems only minor skin irritation , if in a couple of months things are still ok in the retro peritoneal area he will close the colostomy, only downside is that as it has sunk so much he may not be able to get the bowel up enough to close it which would mean opening up down the middle again which in his own words would be more work for both of us! So I now sit here and wonder am I really any further forward ! Dear only knows when I'll get an MRI !

Wouldnt it be easier to pull the stoma out now? Or am I being thick? Rather than opening you up again later?

He would most likely have to open up the middle to get enough out, he hopes if the tail end is holding out he will be able to get enough out to close it.

Fingers crossed you get your MRI and they get the process moving ASAP for you. Cause you need to truck up to Dunstable and meet me and my dogs and partner and have a cuppa next time you're on the M1!

Oh I can do that used to load regularly in flitwick and have had many a trip up and down past dunstable, phoned up about MRI and they reckon early July but have taken my mobile no for cancellation as they do them up till 7pm and I only live half an hour away so would be ideal to fill a gap. Here's a photo of how the skin on stoma is improving. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340044634.307155.jpg

It does look quite a bit better. Still a ways to go though. Hope the MRI gives you the green light!

Yes it's definitely not as raised as it was so hopefully it'll continue to improve. I don't dare think what the MRI will show! I just want some sort of a life with or without a stoma.

Oh man!
Find the number for the mri department and phone them at least once a week and pester them for an appointment. Or phone your gi every week and ask when you will be getting your mri appointment. Pester pester pester
I am ssorry there wwas no magic wand waving for you hun. Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you are ever down this way let me know I will put the kettle on.

MRI hopefully in next couple of weeks only took 3 months to get this far! Meanwhile dirty Harry continues to heal and sink, ah shit if you didn't laugh you'd cry lolImageUploadedByTapatalk1340784503.980031.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1340784540.384654.jpg one of before and after.
