Hey, I am sure this has been asked a million times already but my nausea has gone from occasional, to frequent, to waking me up in the middle of the night. It has taken all my willpower not to throw up and I am starting to get desperate. I do have phenergan, and it does work but I fall asleep within 2 hours of taking it most of the time. It is starting to effect my life. My daughter woke up a quarter to 8am, I didn't wake up till a quarter to 11am. It isn't right to have a 5 year old do this almost every morning. I have to take naps during the day most of the time as well.

Is there anything else I can do to help curb my nausea both during the day and during the night?

The only Crohns med I am on is Asacol 1.4 g/day. And then for my asthma I am on singulair and nasocort, then the rescue inhaler (which also crashes me out if I have to use it.) The only other ones are pain killers as needed, which they aren't needed much really and the phenergan.

Hey Isla, yea Phenegren knocks me out too. I've tried Dramamine which is used for car sickness and it seems to help some of the time but not always. Might be worth a shot and it doesn't make you tired and is OTC.

I will have to check out the dramamine since it won't make me tired. I love the phenergan because it really does work and allows me to eat, but I have only managed to stay awake 2 or 3 times after taking it. And with running my own business, a kid, and a household to run - it isn't really working FOR me :)

Thanks for the responses. This week I will be picking up some!

I highly recommend ginger pills. It's been proven in clinical trials to help with nausea. The ginger numbs your stomach taking away part of the mechanism that fuels the nausea. It's not a cure (and not quite as good as Dramamine) but it works via a physical effect instead of a systemic chemical effect so there is no drowsiness. Taking it in pill form just helps you get it down without the strong taste.

Ya I may try that, I am afraid of burping up a ginger taste though because I totally loathe the taste of that stuff. But thanks for the suggestion!

I guess my question is - why do you have nausea? Is that a Crohn's thing?
I think I've heard that nausea could signify a blockage or narrowing, but that's all I can think of.

Ya I know what an obstruction feels like and I am not having any pain at all (thank bajeebus) but I am nauseated pretty much everyday and sometimes ALL day. Sometimes I vomit a tiny bit into my mouth but it isn't so bad that I can't hold it back. I have no idea if this is Crohns related - I doubt it as I don't have any current inflammation and I have no scarring anywhere in my whole GI tract - never have had any scarring or signs of inflammation for that matter. Far as I can tell I am totally in remission - except for this one thing :)

I can't help the antichrist joke, I usually reserve it for the ER docs that ask "how are you sure you are not pregnant?"

I just asked one of my best friends to acquire some mary jane for me. Hopefully that will calm it down to a tolerable amount. Now I just have to figure out a way to use it without smoking it - but I only want a hits worth since technically I am allergic to the stuff. Wow, that kind of shows me how desperate / bad this is that I am willing to introduce something into my body I know I am allergic to just to get relief. Not only that, it is illegal to boot - but I really am that desperate.

Well I have an appointment with my GI next Thursday because of the nausea. Hopefully I can get it taken care of.

sorry about you bouts with nausea...

latley I have had the issue as well, my GI placed me on this new (at least it is to me) sublingual Zofran. It works pretty good, not as long as the promethazine does, yet you might want to ask for it.

just a thought.

Ya Zofran hasn't worked very well for me before. When I was hospitalized for my obstruction they ended up giving me both Zofran IV and oral Phenergan.

I think for my own sake I am looking for more of a cause. I just don't think it is normal to feel nauseated every single day and sometimes all day long. Though I think my GI will discount me as either being crazy or nothing much. But this is his last chance to stay my GI, if he treats me either of the ways I think he will I am going to call my primary to have him set me up with a doctor of his choice.

Ok so I saw my GI today. I feel much better because it is confirmed without a doubt that I have Crohns because the marked improvement from the Asacol. As for my nausea he prescribed me Zofran because I am allergic to Compazine. Unfortunately my Medicaid only pays for 15 pills every 30 days. So I guess I get to be nausea free once a day every other day?? But I will be looking up a way for me to get approved for more.

As to the cause, he scheduled me for an upper endoscopy for Sep. 5th and then a brain scan if the upper is negative and then possibly maybe even over to an ENT. We will see. All I can say is at least it is moving forward and I am satisfied that my nausea is being taken seriously.

I am waiting on a diagnosis right now. Three ER trips, one emergency care, and two doctor's visit total in the last 4 weeks. My doctor now has 4? confirmed results of NOT PREGNANT. I joked with her that this will be standard for any and everything medically related from now on.

I've been having a huge problem with this lately. It started with heart burn a couple of times a week, then I had a full on indigestion episode which was so so painful. Yesterday I started feeling sick to the point where I was stood over the toilet ready for it to come but it didn't. I slept for an hour and when I woke the feeling had gone. This morning I was OK, and just after lunch I started feeling sick again and I still feel horrible now. Its never affected me before and its absolutely awful. Resting helps, but that just isn't always possible when you live with a 6 year old! I'm getting really tired of this disease at the moment. Its gradually been getting worse and if I could meet it in person I'd punch it in the face!!
