Yes, I get nauseous - but I have never had an obstruction (looking for a piece of wood to knock on!!). For me, I think this happens when I have active disease in my colon and stuff moves through that area and I get crampy - usually the nausea comes with crampiness. But it has never been related to an obstruction (we are talking FULL obstruction here) for me.
I can't speak about an obstruction really since I haven't had one - but from reading other's posts - seems like you would KNOW you have one as there would be a very high level of pain along with vomiting - not just nausea.
Other thing to think about - do you *know* where your activity is with your disease? And if so - did the doc tell you you had strictures that might lead to obstruction? I just don't want you to have to worry about something that may not even be there presently you know? Feel better......
I had a pill cam in November and everything looked fine. On Thursday I am having a small bowel follow through. I am having pain and cramping and going to the bathroom more.
I'm going to second Peaches. I get horrible nausea to the point where I'll just lie in bed terrified of an obstruction. The Crohn's Alien comes in full effect making tons of noises and a whole lot of cramping, too. So far, never had an obstruction and hopefully never will. That's probably one of my #1 fears about having this disease.
I just have a lingering mild nausea. Its not too bad, but its always around. I guess the only thing I really have to do is to make sure that I'm still eating at the right times and enough to keep my weight normal.
Yes I too second peaches.. I get really really bad nausea its probably most worst symptom even over the big D as it totally floors me and I can't even move without feeling like I need to run to the bathroom to throw up. I also get vomiting and can't really eat because of it all.. so I end up losing my appetite and weight!! Joys of having crohns.
Ms. Tan - I can't remember how long you have been on the 6MP - but if it hasn't been for too long - isn't nausea a side effect? I can't remember, just thinking. Hopefully it will pass.
Mary - where is your cramping? Can you tell if it is in your colon or small intestine? Some people can't tell the difference, especially early on. I wish you luck with your SBFT on Thursday - let us know how it goes OK? Remember to drink lots of fluid afterward to flush all that yucky stuff out of your system as well.
Peaches - yep only been on 6mp for 3 weeks last week have up to the dose as directed by my GI since then have been feeling like crap! Im going to give these antiboitics a go until tomorrow if Im not feeling better then will reduce the 6mp back down to the lower dose and see how I feel. I get bad nausea with a flare as well. I should have my blood work back tomorrow to so hopefully that will give me some indication as to what is going on.
Mary - good luck with the bowel follow thru on Thursday hopefully you get some answers as we can all relate to how frustrating it can be not knowing exactly what is going on.
Yep, the nausea is terrible. And my GI doc says people with Crohn's don't get nausea. Sometimes I have to run to the bathroom because I feel like its right there but nothing happens.
Totally hear you Pewpew... my GI actually said that it is common but not listed as a symptom on most websites etc. Go figure!! Its just a horrible feeling.
I am constantly nauseated when I am flaring, and am very prone to obstructions.
So maybe that is why I always am nauseated. Never thought of them being linked
to obstructions before...

Of course we don't get sick to our stomachs, we're Crohnies and we're the toughest people on this earth. We have iron guts and pain tolerances that are of the charts. We have intestines made of cast iron and they never plug up.
IT'S ALL IN OUR HEADS, WE'RE NOT SICK, WE'RE FAKING BECAUSE WE LIKE THE ATTENTION WE GET WHEN WE HAVE ALL THESE FUN TESTS DONE. i LOVE HAVING TUBES STUCK UP MY BUTT AND DOWN MY THROAT AND LETS NOT FORGET THE COOL NG TUBE STICKING OUT OF OUR NOSES.
NOW REPEAT AFTER ME-- I DON'T GET NAUSEA, I DON'T GET NAUSEA, I DON'T GET NAUSEA------ I JUST PUKE FOR THE FUN OF IT!!!!!!!!!
It has been awhile since I have had nausea, but medications cause it, and if you are headed for a bowel obstruction, the pain is unmistakable and you vomit and have nausea way beyond anything imaginable. Knock on wood only had a small partical blockage from eating Turkey a couple of months ago. If I ever get a full bowel obstruction it will be my 3rd resection coming... so I avoid them.
