need help, fast

havent had a BM in 4 days now. i know its from the pain meds, but i need to know if i should take a laxative or a stool softner. i have tried every natural remedy i can think of but nothing helps. no matter how much i try nothing comes out. please help!

someone suggested aloe and apple juice together. I was told to use sennacot (stool softener) and Dolcusate Sodium (colace - stool softener). It didn't work so they prescribed lactulose. I find the aloe and apple juice is a good option though.
good luck.. :D I went 17 days once and didn't explode :D uncomfortable though thats for sure!

17 days! ouch. my biggest fear is an obstruction. glad to hear that didnt happen. go figure though, when im flaring i cant stop going to the bathroom, now that the remicade is working i cant go at all! waiting for a detox plan to get off the pain meds. been taking them every day for close to 2 yrs now. cant wait for the day that the strongest med i take is a tylenol!

Hey Carey, that is not good to have a bowel movement every day. I never recommend this but once in a blue moon, (which is rare for me) is to use a Glycerin suppository and get your bowels moving or you could end up in ER. Once you get it cleared stick to clear fluids and or an electrolyte to keep your system clear and rested. I also find drinking hot water also gets the bowels moving. Let us know when you pass it!!!

:cheerss: Have you tried ALOE VERA JUICE? I use Fruit of the Earth Wild Berry flavor. I get it at Wal Mart in the laxative section. 2oz every couple hours until you get some relief. I drink it plain and don't have anything else for at least a half hour or so, my own hope that it will do it's job unhindered by other things to be digested. It doesn't give me any cramping or anything. My dx is crohns but my meds gives me constipation. I don't get the runs either. You can even go on their website and look them up. THey have a quick video and info on it. It is the most gently thing I have ever tried and I get easy relief without side effects too. I used to used a prescription lax but hated it. I found this a month ago and lovin it now.

I read somewhere that chamomile tea has some laxative properties, and as Pen said hot water helps too so maybe make yourself a nice big cup of hot tea and see if that gets things going. I usually have d but sometimes I get constipated, and I find that drinking a ton of water seems to keep things moving a little better. If you don't drink enough, your stools will dry out a little bit and be more painful to pass. Good luck, I hope things start moving soon!

Keona, ouch! 17 days?? The most I've gone without going is something like 2 or 3 days and even that was kind of uncomfortable!

stool softners dont work for my constipation, the only thing I found that works is Colon Max by Advanced Naturals. It is of course all natural and has healing and soothing ingrediants for sensitive tummy's works in a day for me. My nutritionist introduced me to it and I love it. Good for people w Crohns. http://www.advancednaturals.com/Detox/ColonMax.aspx hope this helps you like it has helped me, before this I would go days 4-5 on average now I am more regular but no big D just normal. Good Luck!!!

How ya doing, Carey? I hope you found something that works for you! I think generally a stool softener is better for us than a laxative.

Back in the old days before I had any disease, my max time without going was ten days. I told my mom, "Is it bad that I haven't pooped in ten days?" She freaked, gave me a glycerin suppository and sent me to the bathroom!

hey guys dont forget prune juice.. or eat the actual prune.. it sells in walmart.. that will have you running to the bathroom.. atleast me it does.. with the new meds im on for some reason i off and on i wont go for 2 days and then when i eat prunes my tummy let it out thank god..

I vote the stool softener and lots of water, too - a laxative might make you have to go, but if what you have is compacted, and it's very hard - you're going to end up with a fissure on your hands. Well, actually, your bum. Good luck!!

Prune juice works for me every time! When I was on Zofran for morning sickness with my second child, I was horribly constipated and had to use stool softeners (capsules). They worked great too.

i finally broke down and got a cheap stool softner at king soopers. finally got to go. never thought i would be happy to visit my toilet! the softner and water helped immensely! thanks guys for all the replys.
