I need to replace my prozac and Nexium since they are delayed release pills and won't be absorbed due to the new plumbing.

Is there a liquid or chewable anti-depressant and PPI heartburn medication?

As far as I am aware you can get liquid anti depressants and PPI's ngng. How has your gut changed that you require them?

I would be tempted to believe that both are absorbed in the proximal small bowel mostly after the liver metabolism.

I'm being told that delayed release are not advisable for anyone with an ostomy. I'm not sure which drugs come in the liquid form.

The vast majority of enteric coated/delayed release tablets are designed to be released in the duodenum or the proximal end of the jejunum.

Certainly the issue is not necessarily with enteric coated medication but those that are designed to be slow release and therefore provide action over an extended period of time. With an ostomy or j pouch the transit time is usually sped up and so these extended release medication are not fully effective.

Prozac and Nexium are available in liquid form.

As long as the antidepressant or PPI isn't extended or slow release you should absorb it fine. I use pariet for heartburn and mirtazapine for depression (although I'm phasing it out for amitriptyline). Both are well absorbed by me and I have short gut syndrome - I don't see the tablets in my bag whereas I do see my slow release pain pills about an hour or two after I take them. You'd need to see your doctor to discuss what antidepressant and PPI is suitable for your situation though. I'm sure there will be something suitable or ask about the liquid forms Dusty mentioned.

Is it possible for a liquid to only work at a certain ph balance or all liquid meds will work with ostomy?

Sorry I don't know. I would assume they are absorbed directly but I'm only guessing.
