Hello! I'm Amy. 42 year old mom of five great kiddos :) and happily married for twenty years :)!

To make a long story short, my crohns has been very aggressive since I was diagnosed at twenty years old. I have been on every drug, literally and have been going to Mayo Clinic for the last four years, traveling 7.5 hours each way. My first surgery was when I was twenty two and I had a leak after surgery that took them three days of me complaining to find. They did an emergency surgery and I had developed sepsis and was told they couldn't guarantee I would pull through the infection and loss of bowel. They removed all but 180 cm of small bowel and gave me an illeostomy. So I'm fighting many things now besides my very active crohns in that I can't absorb nutrients. They have me currently on Stellara but it hasn't helped at all yet. I have been taking it for 7 months. I am having a colonoscopy locally here in late October and will be completely out under general anesthesia. I am scared to death and the only thing Ibhavent tried is legal medical marijuana. We live in Illinois. None of my doctors, here or at Mayo will approve or really even discuss medical marijuana. How do I get it? I am so overwhelmed with life and am so scared that I won't be here for my kids and husband ☹️. Struggling alot feeling depressed and am not sure what to do?!?! My Dr at Mayo really said there aren't any options right now for me but to try increasing Stellara to every four weeks...I haven't noticed any good things from taking it but instead have had skin issues pop up while taking it.

Thank you for any help or advice :)!

Amy

You live in a hard state. However, next door is Michigan. I used to live in Ann Arbor (now in Phoenix) and I can tell you there are quite a few people there who are on board there. I don't know who exactly to contact, but you might start with the usual suspects, such as the local NORML group. Or maybe the Yellow Pages? Also nice IMO, is that you can get (last I knew) AMTRAK between Ann Arbor and Chicago, which is really sweet if driving is a problem.
