Husband is being admitted for the 3rd time. We just got out last Tuesday and I called the nurse today and dr wants him readmitted. He's on remicade, enemas, vanco, Prilosec, and Percocet.

What do I need to ask and I'm so lost. We're meeting at the dr first then doing a direct admit to avoid the ER.

He's having up to 20 bloody stools daily, nauseousness, dry heaves, extreme pain, third remicade treatment was less than 2 weeks ago. He had a ct scan end of feb and an abdominal X-ray in march during first admit.

What did the CT scan and X-ray show?

Have they given him prednisone or anything like that to try and get his inflamation down, if that's waht is going on?

I would ask for answers as to what in the world is going on and what they are going to do to fix the situation.

P.S. I really really hope that you guys get some answers and get him on a better path. It is so completely frustrating to be so sick and not have the answers you need and want.

I'm sorry I hope that he gets the help he needs! Sometimes I feel like its better to be admitted when youre in such a nasty flare. I'm sure it causes a lot of strain but hopefully he will get the help he needs or at the very least better pain management and IV fluids while they figure out the next option for him. I would be interested in what they plan to do for him...they may not know that yet though until he talks with the team of docs at the hospital. But maybe ask about new imaging tests or new medicine?

So far they have said he needs hydration, probably blood again( he got 2 units last weekend) going to look into Iv steroids. the PA is who saw him and now he is discussing it all with the dr now.

They said ct and X-ray looked ok. He has a lot of inflammation.

So he's on fluids, vanco, prilosec, allegra, zofran and Percocet. He was running fever so he had blood cultures done,CBC,crp, cmp, sed rate and stool (checking for cdiff). Oh and type and screen and have two units of blood waiting for the call if he needs it.

I thought they were going to start him on pred but not
Yet I guess. This was the same orders he left the hospital last Tuesday on and we have been doing this at home. I want them to change things and help him.

I just don't get it. How long does a person have to suffer. When he was admitted last time the dr said he didn't want to do to many things at once so he would know what he responded to and what he didn't. Obviously he's not responding.

So blood is done and the dr came to talk to him in detail. He told him he is very very sick and he is going to try to manage his care without surgery but if he does not start doing responding then we will have to start weighing our options. He talked about starting another med along with remicade. He said he's also running some other tests on the poo to check for other things maybe viral? He had a better day today, don't know if it was the pred or not but this evening he has had some very painful (in the rectum) bloody poos.

How much pred are they giving him? IV steroids helped get me out of a really horrible bout. I started taking 60mg IV, and you wouldn't believe how quickly things started turning around for me. I really hope that it helps him out. I'm glad they finally gave him steroids to help.

Hopefully he can avoid surgery, but with how sick he is right now, it might not be the worst thing to happen to him. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

How long has this been going on now?

Hello Manzyb!!

15 yrs ago he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and took meds for about 1 1/2 yrs. he hasn't been on them since nor been to a dr since. This yr end of jan. he started with blood in his stools and had a colonoscopy on feb 23. He has progressively gotten worse.

The dr told him today that he is very very sick!!! He apologized to him that he has. Of gotten him better yet and that right now he has no quality of life and the dr is going to try and figure this out. He told him when he first came that he was a textbook case and he has not responded to anything.

Well, i really hope that he gets to start feeling better soon. How's he feeling today? Prednisone making him feel any better yet?

The pred I think is helping. He had a good day yesterday. Not so good this morning. He said he just feels blah. His stomach is upset and very painfully poos. this is crazy hard with the 7 kids at home. I think he's headed to surgery soon. I guess I should start reading up on it :(

omg. i could only imagine. It was hard enough being in the hospital and having surgery with just one baby! I couldn't imagine 7.

Do you know what surgery he is having? I had small bowel resection back in the beginning of the year. If you have any questions, ask! there are plenty of people on here that can help answer questions about it!

I have no idea what any of them are called but he said he would have a bag and then 3 months later go in and do something.
