I just did a upper gi series test they found a duodenal ulcer so they wanna do a egd and I'm freaking out whats the likely hood that this may be cancer I've never had a ulcer before but the Internet said they are very common especially this one. I'm a 28 year old male and I have absolutley made myself sick worrying about this test Friday and what there gonna tell me I've burden evryone around me with my crazy ideas I just need some reasuurrance that I'm being crazy and that every thing is gonna be fine cause I know it well but I'm almost afraid to be confident that its nothing serious jut to have the wind sucked from my sails and it really be something serious :-( help please I'm still going crazy lol

Hun this stressing really isn't doing you any good. Stress is not good for any one and it is especially bad for crohns sufferers.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion of cancer but it is highly unlikely. If they suspected that they would of done this as far more urgent. The most likely answer is that they saw the ulcer and simply just want to take a biopsy so they can see how they need to treat it.

Ulcers are very common and the more you stress about it the worse you are going to feel.

First of, are you diagnosed or going through IBD diagnosis process?

Second, don't over worry,
- in crohn's, it's a possibility to have ulcers in the duodenum.
- It could likely be H.Pylori, a fairly frequent condition, or a whole other pathology.

The biopsy will allow to know the cause of your ulcers, probably a goal behind the EGD.

Do you have any other information that are justifying your fears for a cancer?
It can happen, but remember the chances that it would be cancer are greatly smaller than the chance for h.pylori for instance.

It is stressful for the time you don't know but there is no need to scare yourself with the worst outcome in between.

No other symptoms other than really bad acid reflux and chest discomfort that went away after taking prilosec for a while then earlier this year I cleared my throat a few times and found blood but I haven't done that in months my dr said it was sinuses. That's about it all my symptoms cleared up after taking prilosec.

I really don't think you have anything to be this worried about. You said yourself to me you thought your symptoms were simply acid reflux. Keep calm and let the doctors do the thinking for a while.

Also I've had a bad summer for health in and out of ers before finally getting relief through prilosec and that cured all my symptoms up so now were here kinda the last test to tell exactly whats been going wrong with me it's looking like a ulcer is the culprut but in my mind I plan the worse so of it is ever bad news ill be prepared? How sad I'm 28 male with zero cancer in my family and I'm still scared to death I guess to cause of my diagnoses of Crohn's I figured I'm already diseased so y not?

But Jison0612, CD is often found in the duodenum and it does show up as ulcerations, that is part of the Crohn's pathology. Then the symptoms you describe are common symptoms of CD in that area or even H.pylori. At your age, with a diagnosis of Crohn's it is way more likely that you are dealing with CD in your duodenum or possibly H. pylori.

If these concerns are affecting your mental psyche to a point that is causing you such anguish you may want to call and discuss it all with you GI or GI nurse tomorrow. They may not give you a confirmed yes or no at this point but they may be able to explain the pathology of Crohn's that can put your mind at ease about this ulcer.

Thanks guys sorry for being such a burden my worries get the better of me but talking/venting to u guys has helped me out a lot and its took a lot of stress off my wife too. There's no doubt that all my freaking out and stressing out has all been completely blown out of proportion. I thank it's more so I've never had this test before so its un seen territory and u never know why they may find as silly as that sounds? Even though they know whts there cause u just had a upper gi series? See how stupid I get but anyways thanks guys and I promise after tomorrow as soon as the test is over ill post the update and finally be normal in the head again. I'm guessing Crohn's or h pylori or both well see!!!!
