Hi,
I am new to this site! I am 28 and have had Crohn's for 12 yrs (wahoo)! I had a small bowel resection in 2010, and currently on Imuran.
My 2yr old son had a 3 week long "stomach bug"(we assumed) when the doctor ran a stool test to see why it wasn't going away, the stool came back positive for inflammation (Fecal lactoferrin). We took a second test, after the diarrhea went away, which also came back positive. They are sending us for a detailed stool study. But I am so nervous!!!!! 8 days is took long for me to wait to find out "(.
Has anyone had any experience where there was positive inflammation markers in the stool for other reasons other then Crohn's or UC?
He otherwise looks healthy and his stools vary in consistency.
Would love to hear from other parents.

I can only tell you our experience. Our doctor doesn't use faecal inflammation levels to guide treatment. He says it's hard to know what they mean. They can be elevated when a child is flaring and elevated when he is not and vice versa.

I know other doctors do use those tests however.

Have you been referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist? If not then I would stay calm until you've had a chance to conference with one as they are really the experts. I think it's a good sign that your son appears to have recovered.

I agree with Patricia, as our ped. GI has learned the hard way with my daughter that isn't all that can determine a flare or issues. The only way to be sure IMO is a scope. Hoping for the best for your son!

Sending positive thoughts and strength your way to try to be patient while waiting for results. Waiting is one of the hardest things to do as a parent when it concerns our babies health. Please keep us posted!!
