I was diagnosed with Crohns a month ago. This was following abdominal pain and blood in my stools. Ten years ago I was diagnosed with UC, so obviously a misdiagnosis there.

My specialist told me I had a mild case because I had no symptoms- not that he asked me. I've been having nausea and diarrhea for six months. Then a couple of days ago I got black blood in my stools coupled with severe abdominal pain and extreme fatigue. My GP told me to go to Emergency- after some blood tests they sent me home but told me to come back if it happened again. Next day it happened again so I went off to (another) emergency and they took bloods, found a CRP of 27 and sent me home. They said I only need to come back if I get stomach swelling or severe pain.

Anyway I don't know what to do. One hospital says go to emergency with blood and fatigue. The other says don't. And my Dr says I have a mild case and require no meds?!?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

My first thought is that you need a new GI doc, you do have symptoms and you should be receiving treatment. Out of interest with regards to the recent crohn's diagnosis was this after some new testing and if so what tests were carried out? Do you notice whether certain foods aggravate things and do you know whether your vitamin levels have been tested? I would perhaps go back to your GP and explain what is happening when you go to emergency and say that they need to help you get something sorted treatment wise.

Please let us know on how you get on.

Welcome to the forum!

My advice to you is to try to find a new GI. This one obviously isn't helping you, anyway! All cases of Crohn's need treatment to prevent them from getting more severe. Just because symptoms are mild now, does not mean you can't have a severe flare later. Best to take measures to keep that from happening!

Like Angrybird, I'm wondering what lead to the change of diagnosis.

 I hope things get better soon.

Hi

New GI in the works!

When I was 19 I had blood in my stools and they diagnosed ulcerative colitis but did no biopsies. This time they took biopsies and found granulomas in both my stomach and large intestine.

I'm feeling better today and no blood!

Surely blood is a symptom...

They tell people never to stop taking meds even when in remission. Good luck with the new doc x

Glad to hear you are feeling better today and that a new doc is being sorted, please keep us updated on how things go.

Yes well old GI said I had the flu and it wasn't Crohns. Even with a C reactive protein of 27 and BP 85/53.

So I am waiting to see a new GI.

Old GI managed to make me think it was all in my head.

Must admit that is the first I have heard of abdominal pain and bloody stools being explained as flu! I will be keeping fingers crossed that you can be seeing the new doc soon.
