New girl.. weird symptom.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here has experienced anything similar to my symptoms.

I've had bowel problems for the last 6 years. I had an upper GI series and a barium enema approx. 4 years ago. Both were clear.
This past year I had a HUGE flare for a month and a half where I couldn't eat anything. I would either pass it through diarrhea or throw up.
I had constant nausea and intense abdominal pain I also found out i was running a low grade fever.
Saw a gastroenterologist. He was a jerk!!!! Told me I must be eating junk and that I should lose some weight! I had already lost 20 lbs from the flare and am well within a healthy BMI.
So I was diagnosed with IBS.
However recently I been having little "episodes" which have been a little different from my usual "IBS" flares.
It goes like this. Day one bowel irritation, day two bowel irritation and nausea, day three lip and lower face swelling (angelina jolie lips...it looks like i've had bad lip injections) low grade fever and crazy vertigo.
Food allergies and herpes have been ruled out in regards to the lip swelling. I'm starting to think this sounds more like chron's especially with the lip swelling. So does my GP.
I've had three of these "episodes" in the last 3 months in addition to regular "ibs" discomfort.
Any of this sound familiar to anyone?? Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, sorry to hear your going through so much . I'm not sure what it could be. but 4 years ago is a long time. things sound like they need more attention. can you make an app. with an other GI maybe get a scope to rule out other things . just don't go back to the jeck. and sorry don't know anything about swollen lips maybe someone else here does. well keep us posted and I ppray you feel better and get answers.

You don't lose weight with IBS. Did you have small bowel investigations ? Are you still losing weight? Have you had your bloods rechecked? You could always ask for a second opinion..are you from the UK?

I have not had lip swelling, but I my tongue does swell. When it first started, it was so bad that it made it difficult to speak. It has improved, since I have been diagnosed and on meds. This symptom stumped my doctors.

I'm in Canada and luckily I know someone who knows someone so it looks like I'll be able to skip seeing the Gastro altogether. I'm going for another upper GI series and if that doesn't show anything I'll be seeing a surgeon for a colonoscopy. A surgeon who's daughter has Crohn's and is apparently "with it" lol.
All in all I would just like to get to the bottom of it. It's been long enough.
So for now..... here we go again

Interesting you ask this question....I had an episode last summer, while dealing with a mild flare where I ate ice cream....something I always eat!! With in about two hours I sent through the same line of events you listed....in the end, my lips were swollen, I was stuck on the loo in serious pain and it was very scary. Im pretty sure it was my cd acting up and causing my body to go hay wire and produce other symptoms. Which has become very common for my body to do as this disease evolves.
