New guy on the block

Hello Everyone, I'm new to the forum but not to UC. I was first diagnosed with UC about 18 years ago and have had periodic success with the usual treatments, (prednisone, asacol and a near death experience with imuran) About a year ago my UC flared up and I have'nt been able to get it completely under control. I've had minimal results using Salofalk(aminosalicylic acid) I was at my Dr. today and he is suggesting that we try Remicade. I have looked it up on the Internet and it appears to be a bit scary. Does anyone have any experience with this drug? Any info is greatly appreciated and I thank you very much in advance for any info that you can give me. Hoping to hear from someone.

Welcome! I have been on Remicade and it is a serious drug. I didn't notice any negative side effects with it but stopped taking it after it lost its effect on me. There are lots of people here with experience with it as well. You should check out the remicade sub-section as well.

I have crohns actually, buit yes it did. Like I said though, eventually it got the point where it just didn't do anything anymore so I stopped taking it and switched to other medicine

I don't have any experience of Remicade, but wanted to say hi anyway Hope you'll get the help you need. I've heard a lot of positive comments conserning Remicade in the finnish IBD forum.

Welcome. I'm new here as well. Although I am partial to it, Remicade is the greatest medical advancement in the past 30 years. I had terrible Crohn's for 8 months, lost like 80 pounds, and was just plain depressed about it. Being a rather big dude (6'3, 215 and an avid bodybuilder) loosing weight and not being able to work out was awful. I had surgery in May '10, been on Remi since 8 weeks after that and haven't had even the smallest flare. Put back on all the weight and healthy as can be.

Hi CrazyLegs! Welcome to the forum.

I have UC and am on Remicade. It took some time, but a gradual progress was made for me because of my infusions. By the 4th one, my disease went into remission. So I'll cross my fingers that it does the trick for you, too.

If not, Humira is another biologic that works very similarly. It's done in weekly? injections rather than bimonthly infusions. I think it's mostly a preference thing, but for some, one or the other will work better.
