Hi my name is Tia.

When in my mid twenties, (I'm 36 now) I started having pain and problems with diarrhea. I ended up with surgery to correct fissures, and had a couple of catscans and a couple of times I had colonoscopies. THe doctor I went to found some small ulcers in my colon that he said was irritation from the bowel prep and told me I had irritable bowel sydrome. No treatment was given and I went on my way but since then I have had lots of gut problems and am uncomfortable frequently, Along with joint pain and mouth ulcers that I get all time. I had been seeing a rheumatologist for awhile because of high anti dna titers and was given a "mixed connective tissue disease" diagnosis.
Well, I quite going to anybody for about 5 years, and I had my regular doctor check my labs a couple of months ago.
Everything looked ok except for low platelets.
But since the end of last year, I have worsening right sided pain, not under my ribs but the middle right side. Its lumpy and firm and hurts to press on it. Sometime I wont go for a couple of days and this spot gets bigger and then I will "break loose" and go alot. (gross I know).
So last week, I had clay colored stools that went away. It returned again this week and I went to my regular doctor who just took some labs and I am to follow up on Monday if not better.
My mother was diagnosed with U.C. and takes asacol. She currantly is doing ok.
I'm wondering if this might have been crohns for me all along and I've just been suffering for years due to a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrom. Im worried about obstruction and I'm worried about a bile obstruction or something. I just feel that I don't get listened too and I'm ignored but I've had so many things that are similar to crohns that it seems obvious to me.

Thanks for listening, just wanted to vent a little and share my story. I'm not feeling so good this last week and have lost 5 pounds. Can't eat and my side hurts. Just hoping for some advise or insight.

My advice is that if you ever feel misdiagnosed, or have the feeling that you are being ignored - then you want to change doctors, or atleast seek a second opinion. Unfortunately Crohns can be hard to diagnose. However it is also a condition where it is very important that your doctor listen to things like you had just mentioned to us. My doc would have me off for testing to make sure there wasn't an obstruction like you had mentioned. Hopefully this isn't the case for you.

Seek another GI.

Best of luck

Hi Tia
and welcome

That pain you're describing, in the middle right, I had that last year, turns out I was blocked, and you could see and feel it too!
Time to go back to the doc, have you got a gastro? It's been quite a while since your last scope, things can progress very swiftly.
Write down everything, symptoms you've told us, dates, diets, everything, and persist with the doc, follow your gut instinct, you know when something's not right!
If you start vomiting however, go straight to A&E
good luck, and let us know how you get on
lotsa luv

I've been screaming about yellow poop for years. Just irritable bowel, they told me. Uh,huh. Until the colonoscopy where it turned out to be Crohn's. Keep on them. I wish I had. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you for all your advice. I did place a call to the oncall nurse to see if she can look at my labs from yesterday and I'll go from there. Just waiting to here back.
I was resigned to just dealing with my symptoms until this week when I started to have new changes that aren't typical for me. I do have a gut feeling that I'm not dealing with just IBS, since my family has IBD in it.

Thanks again!
Tia
