Hello everyone!
Thought I would drop a note and say hello. I was diagnosed with Crohn's back in 2004 my senior year of high school. I have refused the normal medical treatments and tried to take care of it on my own through diet, exercise, probiotics, and supplements.
I see a more natural type doctor and he has had luck with getting patients under control without going through the typical medical treatments.
However, I've had diseased intestine for a long time and I'm at point where some of the terminal ilieum and asending colon are scarred and thickened with no real chance of healing it up. The rest of my body looks good in the CT scan.
I went to the Cleveland Clinic to get a second opinion and saw Dr. Bret Lashner, I can't recommend him enough. He sent me for a CT, minus the small section of small/large intestine everything else looked unremarkable. He said I could try remicade for a year with a 30% chance of it helping or surgery. He was strongly recommending surgery.
I've accepted I need surgery and talked with a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Dr. Hermann Kessler. If anyone has any information on him I'd appreciate it but Dr. Lashner said he was very good.
I'm going in for surgery April 19th if nothing derails it. I think it will be laparoscopic, sounds like there is a chance they could cut me wide open and a chance I could get bagged for 3 months. Hoping I can prevent both of those.
Dr. Lashner and my natural doctor both agreed my quality of life should get much better.. even though I have really been living a pretty normal life I haven't been bogged down with too many side effects.
At any rate if anyone has any suggestions for post surgery or whatever I'm all ears. I appreciate the forum for sharing information.
