:sign0085:Hi my name is Jennifer and my middle son Jazz who will be 4yrs old on the 25th of this month (July) was diagnoised with crohn's 1 week ago. I have been reading as many books and posts as I can find to help us with as much information as possible but nothing helps as much as talking with someone else going through the same thing. Jazz is currently taking Pentasa and Zantac twice a day and it seems to be helping some. He still has days of loose stool, no more bloody diarrhea but the problem we are dealing with is he still has random days of severe joint pain. Today he woke up crying and is unable to move his legs without them hurting. He also is having pain in one elbow. This pain comes and goes, some days are great others are horrible. Any suggestions??? Thank you!:sign0085:

Jennifer - glad to have you....but hate to hear your little one isn't feeling well.

I know the diagnosis is new. Is the joint pain a new development since diagnosis? Is worse in the morning than the rest of the day? You candefinitely use tylenol (no NSAIDs like motrin, etc as I'm sure you've read). But I guess my two cents is that it may warrant an early call to the GI.

Let us know how we can support you all.

Hugs, J.

Hi Jennifer and :welcome:

I'm so sorry to hear about Jazz...:(. On the upside you have found a fab place for support and info so please stick around.

My daughter suffered with joint pain, it is an extra intestinal manifestation Crohns, and she did take Panadol with some effect. The only thing that really treated it though was getting into remission. Sarah has been in remission for 5 years now and her joints have not bothered her in that time.

Where is Jazz's Crohns located? How severe/extensive is it? Generally this will dictate the drug regime and what is prescribed.

Pentasa is one of the milder drugs used to treat Crohns and although Prednisone isn't a charming drug by any means it can be very effective at knocking inflammation on the head fast. Has this been mentioned to you?

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need and just remember, there is no such thing as too much information or a dumb question!

Good luck hun and keep us posted on how you are all doing. Welcome aboard!

Much love, :Karl:

Welcome Jennifer! There's nothing worse than seeing your child in pain! I agree with Dusty, they'll probably want to put him on something stronger. My son responded to Asacol(Pentasa) quickly but they still recommended a course of pred because the bloods still showed inflammation. Reading about any of the stronger crohns meds is very frightening but my son has never had any bad side effects from any he's been on including pred, 6mp, Asacol and Humira.

I hope you guys get Jazz back to being a normal 5 yr old soon!

sorry to hear about your son.. I know it is a very scary time for you guys just being diagnosed & I know how you feel. there are lots of people on here that have been dealing with this disease for a long time so just know that you are not alone. I hope they find something to make little jazz feel better. Good Luck & Happy Birthday jazz! hope he feels better soon.

Happy Birthday and may God bless you Little Jazz! We share our special day. :)

Hi poor wee chap I hope he starts to feel better soon I have a 4 year old and it must be rotten for you to watch him in pain I really really hope he starts to feel better soon. I would request a referral to a jeuvenile rheumatologist who will further investigate the joint pain? It can be due to the crohn's as joint pain often runs hand in hand with it.
