new to crohns and worried

hi guys hope everyone is well.

i was diagnosed with crohns last week and am waiting to speak to a consultant. in the meantime i have been reading about the disease and found that after many years the risk of colon cancer is greatly increased. a bit of a wierd question but how do i stop worrying about this- im really scared and anxious about this statistic.

thanks in advanced

Hello,

Yes it is a common concern for most of us here. If there's any consolation, it's that since we're more aware of it, we get tested more often. Should cancer happen, it'll get detected at a much earlier stage.

It's something you just have to come to terms with.

Good luck with your treatment and let us know how everything turnes out.

Welcome nwhg.

Try to take it one step at a time and try not to get overwhelmed. There are lots of great, caring people and info here to help you with every step of the way, so use this forum as much as you want or need.

Take care and keep us posted!

Hi Neverwouldhaveguessed. Phew that was a long one. :) Welcome!

I personally just try to not worry about it and deal with it if it happens. I choose to not stress over the possibilities and instead focus on what is going on today. Like GJG said, we all will get tested frequently, so the chances of early detection are very high!
