I had a filling of fullness in my stomach and pain after eating lasting for hours. I thought it would go away by its own but after a few months of pain and weight loss I finally saw my doctor. She sent me to a gi Dr who then ordered a endoscope and colonoscopy.when I woke up and saw several specimen jars I knew he found something wrong. He told me he thought it was crohns. He put me on pentasa and then imuran.since then I had a two month episode of severe joint pain. Lately my eye lids have been swelling along with my hands. Is this common with crohns?

If I have learned anything so far from having crohns and reading these forums NOTHING is common.

Have they been conducting regular blood tests since putting you on the Imuran? If so, did they come back ok?

Unfortunately, Crohn's Disease can come with a lot of what are called extraintestinal manifestations. Eye issues and arthritis are a couple of those. We have a forum dedicated to extraintestinal manifestations located here that you may want to check out.

Out of curiosity, have you had your vitamin D levels tested? People with Crohn's Disease are commonly deficient and deficiency can lead to some of the symptoms you describe.

Yes joint pain is common with Crohn's but Pentasa causes joint pain and the swelling of any body part is listed under the serious side effects list: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000880/

I'd contact your GI right away if you haven't already to let them know what's going on with you and that you feel you may be having a reaction to the medication.

I called my gi Dr Monday and told them of the new problems with swelling and confusion they finally called me back Tuesday afternoon and told me to see my Pcp. My Pcp always tells me to call my gi doctor.does anyone else have this problems with doctors? I live in a rural area I don't have to many gi docs to choose from. I haven't had any blood work done for at six months and as far as I know have never had hit b12 or d checked

:sign0085oes anyone know of any support groups in NW PA? I haven't heard of any through my doctor or local hospitals. Only one I found is 90 min. Away and only meets every other month.

That must be really frustrating, I'm sorry I'm not sure what to say other than offer my support.

Your general practitioner can order blood work if your GI wont. I have mine do it all the time. Some doctors just need to be told what to do. When my B12 was low my GI couldn't give the shots for it and told me to have my GP do it so I told my GP what the GI said and they simply did it without anymore questions or fuss.

If your GP is telling you to go to your GI with your issues than make an appointment with your GI doc rather than trying to get things done over the phone. Sometimes simply being there in person makes them do more work.

With my B-12 I used to carry around the little bottle with a dropper, while it does not have the potency of the injections every little bit helps. Even though I am now on injections every other week I still carry the bottle in my car for a boost.
I am fortunate enough that my GP just got back from a seminar on Crohns a couple of weeks ago and seems to be proactive in helping me along with my GI.
