Hey everyone,

My name is Tim, I was diagnosed with Crohns last month. I believe I've had the disease sinse 2002. In 2002 I was taken to the ER with extreme pain in the gut which had grown worse over several days. I had emergency surgery for a very bad abscess. After surgery the doctor said it was possibly Crohns. They removed part of my colon, some intestines, gallbladder, appendix and maybe more, not sure. Over the next ten years I didn't have any problems or pain so I ruled out Crohns. Until last month when I began to have bad pain in my lower right abdomen. I went to the ER three times in a week, sent home each time with no answers. On the forth time the doctor refered me to a gastro doctor. He ended up doing a cat scan, lower ab xrays and a colonoscopy. Due to some inflammation and a stricture, his diagnosis was Crohns. I was started on 40 milg of Predisone and 4000 milg of Pentasa. I was switched to Apriso because the Pentasa gave me bad upper abb pain. The Prednisone gave me bad side effects too so he lowered dose to 20 milg a day. So now I'm on 20 mils prednisone, 4 apriso, B12 and vitamin D. I haven't had any issues in two weeks. :
I look forward to talking with you all and learning what to expect from people who share this disease.

Hey Tim and welcome. I'm pleased you found us. I'm also pleased to see that your gastro has you on vitamin D and vitamin B12. Out of curiosity, what dosages does your GI have you on for those?

I wish you all the best.

Thank you for the welcomes everyone. Very informative site you have here, its a great resource.

David, I am taking D3-50 50,000 units of vitamin D, once a week. The B12 is a lozenge which I take everyday, 1000 mcg. I also take Accuflora, a probiotic. Along with Apriso ER 0.375 gram capsule, four a day and I take 20 mill. Prednisone a day. Boy, that seems like alot when you type it out.
