Hi People,

I am due to see my G.I. this Friday. I would like to change my medicine as I feel Humira isn't working for me. I am taking it almost 18 months now and have never encountered remission. Ideally I am looking for something that isn't going to harm me in other ways by taking it. The thought of getting cancer because of Humira frightens me. The consultant never informed me of this when she started me on it either, I found it out myself. Can anybody recommend anything to ask for? I have accepted that I will have symptoms forever, I would just like something friendly to my body while at the same time keeping me from an obstruction if possible. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Many thanks
George

Unfortunately all of them have potentially dangerous and scary side effects but these are rare. If Humira isn't working you can try another biologic which is similar and that is Remicade or Cimzia. I'm not sure what country you are from because Cimzia is not approved for crohn's everywhere even though it does work.

Thanks very much for the reply. I am from Ireland. Sadly I am against taking any of those drugs. I would prefer to suffer than possibly get sick with something else. When I see the doctor I'm going to come off of humira as I'm not comfortable with taking it. I've read a bit about pentasa. Does it have the same possible side effects? (Cancer) I've tried telling the doctor I am happy to I alone without any medicine but she says I will only last a year without surgery if I do. Can anybody shed some light on what I should do?

Thanks again

Pentasa is a mild medication that doesn't have the same power of an immunomodulator or biologic. It has side effects but not as scary and is better tolerated for the most part. You can't go by possible side effects, read any bottle even OTC drugs and it can freak you out. To me an out of control illness and surgery is scarier than the small chance of a major problem due to drugs.
