Well about 2 and a half weeks ago i woke up with a pain in my lower right side, thought maybe i pulled a groin muscle or had a hernia, just know it hurt so i went to my normal dr. He did a blood and urine test then told me he wanted me to have a ct scan, (it is uncommon for him, normally he is not one to order those type of tests) I had the ct scan done the following monday the 21st, he looked at it said he was going to schedule a colonscopy. after an hour he called back and said he was instead going to refer me to a specialist in fayetteville, ar and meet with him because it sounds alot like crohns.

two days later i met with him, he read the findings (didnt have ct scan) and said it sounded like crohns, the colon surgeon is in the building beside him and i met with him, he had preferred me to stay and them admit me right away but i wanted to go get copy of ct scan for them to look at. I brought that back the following morning, they looked at it admitted me and scheduled surgery for friday at 10. after surgery i dont remember alot since I was still out of it, but he said it was alot worse than the ct scans show and he had to remove 2/3 of my colon and an abscess. they confirmed it was crohns from the surgery and i have 2 follow up appointments with him. so far feel better, the pain in lower back is gone, the incision pain is what i think is mostly whats left.

Hi razorback. :)

Things certainly progressed quickly for you! Sounds like you got a great set of doctors looking after you and staying on top of your diagnosis and treatment.

Glad to hear you are doing better after surgery. :) I have managed to avoid that for the time being, but I hear from many people on here that recovery can take a while.

Thanks for sharing your story! Wishing you many years of remission.

Wow - what a quick journey to surgery! You should ask for a copy of your surgical report and CT scan report so you fully understand what happened and what they did.

I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope Crohn's does not return for you!
Welcome to the forum.

Hi and Welcome! Boy, you have been through a whirlwind! But I am happy to hear you are feeling better after surgery.

Have you discuss maintenance meds with your doctor to keep your Crohn's from coming back? You should do some homework and check out the Treatment forum. That way you will be better informed when you need to make a decision on treatment. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Razor and welcome!

Whoa - that was quick! You must feel like things are spinning really quickly for you!

So what is your plan once you recover from surgery? Will you be on any maintenance meds? Had you had no previous symptoms ever before three weeks ago? Sounds like a quick progression to your disease!

Good luck recovering from surgery. Keep us posted on your progress!!

both the surgeon and the dr that directed me to him said the first thing is getting rid of bad sections, then they will go from there on medication. i have the follow up with surgeon in about a week, and he said after that he will probably schedule a visit with the dr ill be seeing regularly in a few more months, they were more focused on getting the bad section out. the first visit he mentioned maintaince drugs, but this was the first step. as far as prior symptoms i actually think i have had them for a long time, just recently became very noticeable.

i do have a question, how has your insurance dealt with this? i have aetna and my last surgery they covered everything but the 350$ deductible , but that was outpatient and 24 hrs not inpatient and 6 days..

I have blue cross. Every plan is different. My plan is $250/day for hospital stays, up to 5 days. Other than that, I am assuming everything is covered... haven't seen a bill yet!!
