hi my name is linda i am writing for my son jordan he was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with crones jordan is 15 years old jordan started with d when he came back from france in february after playing for his under 15s england ice hockey team we thought it was just a bug but over 2 month he lost nearly a stone in weight and started getting stomach pain i took him to our local dr they took blood and said he has inflamation they then got in touch with our local hospital who were amazing and got jordan straight in within 3 days to see the gi consultant he said he wanted jordan to have a colonoscopy and found jordan had inflamation in his large bowel and going into his small bowel at this time jordan was struggling to even keep food down and always seemed to get a fever but only on a night the gi took biopsys from the areas that were inflamed and was put on a liquid diet of modulin ibd treatment for 6 to 8 weeks 5 days into jordans treatment he was getting worse so they admitted jordan straight back into hospital jordan was put straight onto a steroid drip of prednislone 40mg daily and azathioprine 7.5mls daily after about the second day jordan started responding really well to his treatment he has put 3lb on in weight in 3 days and is eating really well and only having 2 trips to the bathroom a day fingers crossed jordan hasnt got any pain now and this medication hopefully is working he is guttered because he hasnt been playing his ice hockey and really wants to get his life back to the way it was this forum is my life at present because it has guided me through the last few weeks when i have been worried sick about jordan.

Glad you found us, but sorry it had to be because of your son's illness:( It's great that they got things going so fast, and i like the idea of the steroid drip, that helped my daughter out a bunch too. He will eventually either be put on oral, or stop steroids because they don't work as a long term treatment, but you might want to look into TNF blockers such as Remicade and Humira, they have worked wonders for me and a bunch of people on this site:) remember if you have any questions or just want to vent this is the place

Hi Linda and welcome! I am sorry to hear about Jordan's diagnosis. But it is good news that he is responded so well to treatment. As Naddie said, he can't stay on steroids long term, but the azathioprine will help keep him well once he weans off.

Hopefully Jordan can be back to playing hockey in no time!
