Hey Everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's last month and it's been an interesting ride ever since. I'm 24 and never really had any symptoms until out of nowhere I had a stomach pain that wouldn't go away for over 2 weeks. Not knowing what it could be, I went to the doctor, and after doing some tests they discovered that my ileum was inflamed. They ended up doing some special blood work and sent it in a lab out in Cali, which found out that I indeed had Crohns.
I was first prescribed Entocort along with Flagyl and Cipro but within 2 weeks was still feeling pain that gradually got worse. One day the pain was so bad I told the doctor I had to see him and rushed over there. He said the Entocort wasn't working and that it would be best to go into the hospital where they could give me prednisone via IV along with Flagyl, Iron, B12 shots and something for the pain. I was there for 5 days and started to feel a little better so I went home.
The very next day I experienced some back pain and mild stomach pain, so my GI suggested we do a Cat Scan to obtain some more info on what was going on. I got the results yesterday and apparently I have 2-3 small abscesses that are to small to be drained (thank g-d!), and apparently a layer of fat has sealed them, but he said they still need to be treated with antibiotics (Cipro, Flagyl, Prednisone). Apparently that is what caused me to have the immense pain that landed me in the hospital.
I'm a little nervous about these abscesses as I've read some horror stories about them on here...but I'm just praying that since they are small and were caught early, they will just go away with the medicine. As of now, I'm not having a crazy amount of pain nor do I have a fever, so I guess thats good in some way.
To be honest, a lot of this has taken its toll on me physically and emotionally, but I am really lucky to have such a supporting family and gf (who although live 3 hours away) have been there for me every step of the way. Not only that, but my GI is truly unbelievable. Not only has he really taken a personal interest in helping me get through this, but has called me at sometimes 8-9pm just to check in, see how I'm feeling and if I have any questions about diet, food etc... You really don't find a lot of doctors like this out there anymore, so I thank g-d every day that I was able to find him, especially on the first try.
As of now I am just taking each day as it comes, and in the mindset that all these drugs I'm currently taking will only be temporary and that sooner or later I will live a long and happy life in remission. I really trust my GI and I'm just listening to everything he tells me to do, because he is confident that if I do, I will get through this. I just hate being on all these meds due to the side effects, but like I said I'm staying positive that this is only temporary and a means to an end!
Anyways, sorry for the rambling, I just wanted to share my story and see what some of you thought. This forum has been really helpful in terms of information and I look forward to contributing more as I get further along in the process.
Thanks for listening
