Hey Everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's last month and it's been an interesting ride ever since. I'm 24 and never really had any symptoms until out of nowhere I had a stomach pain that wouldn't go away for over 2 weeks. Not knowing what it could be, I went to the doctor, and after doing some tests they discovered that my ileum was inflamed. They ended up doing some special blood work and sent it in a lab out in Cali, which found out that I indeed had Crohns.

I was first prescribed Entocort along with Flagyl and Cipro but within 2 weeks was still feeling pain that gradually got worse. One day the pain was so bad I told the doctor I had to see him and rushed over there. He said the Entocort wasn't working and that it would be best to go into the hospital where they could give me prednisone via IV along with Flagyl, Iron, B12 shots and something for the pain. I was there for 5 days and started to feel a little better so I went home.

The very next day I experienced some back pain and mild stomach pain, so my GI suggested we do a Cat Scan to obtain some more info on what was going on. I got the results yesterday and apparently I have 2-3 small abscesses that are to small to be drained (thank g-d!), and apparently a layer of fat has sealed them, but he said they still need to be treated with antibiotics (Cipro, Flagyl, Prednisone). Apparently that is what caused me to have the immense pain that landed me in the hospital.

I'm a little nervous about these abscesses as I've read some horror stories about them on here...but I'm just praying that since they are small and were caught early, they will just go away with the medicine. As of now, I'm not having a crazy amount of pain nor do I have a fever, so I guess thats good in some way.

To be honest, a lot of this has taken its toll on me physically and emotionally, but I am really lucky to have such a supporting family and gf (who although live 3 hours away) have been there for me every step of the way. Not only that, but my GI is truly unbelievable. Not only has he really taken a personal interest in helping me get through this, but has called me at sometimes 8-9pm just to check in, see how I'm feeling and if I have any questions about diet, food etc... You really don't find a lot of doctors like this out there anymore, so I thank g-d every day that I was able to find him, especially on the first try.

As of now I am just taking each day as it comes, and in the mindset that all these drugs I'm currently taking will only be temporary and that sooner or later I will live a long and happy life in remission. :) I really trust my GI and I'm just listening to everything he tells me to do, because he is confident that if I do, I will get through this. I just hate being on all these meds due to the side effects, but like I said I'm staying positive that this is only temporary and a means to an end!

Anyways, sorry for the rambling, I just wanted to share my story and see what some of you thought. This forum has been really helpful in terms of information and I look forward to contributing more as I get further along in the process.

Thanks for listening :)

Hi Drummer and welcome to the Forum!!

It sounds as though you have a great support team
with your GI doctor and your girlfriend!

That's great!! Having their support, and also a positive attitude
helps in so many ways.

I hope the meds put you into remission too.

Any questions...ask away...
someone is usually around.

Once again...Welcome! :)

Welcome to the Forum! Hope you're starting to feel better soon. The meds, especially the prednisone, can have some crazy side effects, but will probably make you feel better really quick - it's really miraculous in that way.

A good support system, a positive attitude, and a doctor you can trust - you hit the trifecta!

Good luck for a quick recovery - hope the abcesses don't give you too much more trouble.

Welcome! You've had a tough start but I'm so glad to hear that you have great supports and are doing okay.

Hi Drummer,
You're lucky you found a great doc. Sorry about the Crohns diag, that's not easy to hear. Wishing you good luck to get into remission.

A great support system is absolutely indispensible....so it's awesome you have that! I'm hoping you find some relief and peace in the diagnosis. It's obviously not easy but finding this site PLUS your family support will help you immensely. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi and welcome. Your doc reminds me a lot of mine in terms of caring and follow-up with your situation. Having somebody like that is really indispensable. It seems my biggest problem is also producing abscesses but so far I was lucky and it could be treated with antibiotics. Of course, having access to my doc any time I need him helps a lot in getting on the meds at an early stage. This last time I called him with my symptoms and he called in the antibiotics without having to go to his office.
Hopefully, your meds will kick in soon and you don't have to have any surgery to get rid of them.

Good luck and Happy Easter!
