Newly diagnosed and 8 months to see specialist

I was just told I am on an 8 month wait list to see a specialist to get proper treatment. This is devasting seeing how I've been flaring since September and am not on any pain medication or other medication. Just deal. Just flaring.

Is there anyway I can "demand" treatment/prescription from my family doctor? I see him again next week.

**the school nurse is trying her best to find me a specialist with shorter wait time seeing how she thinks I need to get this figured out ASAP. I wish she were my doctor. She's great.

yeah let us know where you are from and we can try to help you out. In my area (southern new jersey) it was around a 1 month wait period to see a specialist as a new patient...8 months seems very long.
