Another question for the Crohn's experts. My son's crp never goes into the normal range. Apparently, it is supposed to be less than 1.0. His usually is between 1.5 and 2.5, but it spikes much higher when he is having symptoms. He had a colonoscopy done last week, and the dr found no signs of active Crohn's, even his biopsies were normal. His last CRP, done the week before the colonoscopy, was 1.9. He's on Apriso, Entocort, and Methotrexate. Any thoughts or suggestions? The drs seem confused.

Has he had imaging done of the small bowel?

Scopes can’t reach the vast majority of the small bowel, perhaps there is something lurking in there?

Does he have any symptoms at all, including extra intestinal, that may be producing inflammation? Like joints etc?

A crp bellow 5 is very good, crp can raise with a simple cold or stubbing your toe it's only one indication of inflammation and not to be relied on its own.

DustyKat-My son has no obvious extraintestinal symptoms. We're in a weird situation here. Nothing in our reality is ever "normal". LOL My son has has diagnoses of High Functioning Autism, Seizures(well controlled), and Sensory Processing Disorder. He has to take a small dose of miralax everyday due to scaring and pseudopolyps. He does not mention any pain when asked, but several doctors who knew him before we started on the Crohn's roller coaster, agree that he probably had it for several years before he degraded enough to complain. He just thought it was normal to hurt when he pooped.

You're probably on the right track. When he was at his worst, he had Crohn's ulcers in his stomach, a 8-12in long stricture in his small intestines that by itself would have warranted surgical removal, and a horrific looking Crohn's flare in his large intestines. There's nothing like being told, we'd normally do surgery, but he's too sick. Thanks for your input. It's been over 6 years since they have done a small bowel study, so I'll add that to my "encourage the dr's to investigate".

If Dragon is in the US then they use a different value for CRP.

Below 1 equates to less than 10. So 1.9 is 19.

Sorry, didn’t see your post before I posted above.

Whoa, you and your lad surely have been through a lot and have many challenges. :ghug: I wish you didn’t have push for answers but I agree that they really should be checking his small bowel to see what has happened in his previous areas of disease and to see if anything new has cropped up.

Thinking of you.
