like Robinson Crusoe... it's as...

Oh wait sorry I went a little Weird Al there.

We're living in the 1930s over at my house, well, except for that whole Great Depression thing. Oh and in the real 30s we'd probably have a proper ice box instead of everything spoiling.

We didn't get the worst of Irene. We have a few branches down and some water in the basement but that's all. The worst is that the power went out 4AM Sunday and has been out since. With no power, we've got no water, either, because the well pump is dead.

Things are a bit stressful, which is exactly what we DIDN'T need because Sarah is on her second Prednisone attempt and just started weaning last week. AUGH!! Of course she's pretty stressed out. Frequent diarrhea is stressful/embarrassing enough, but doubly so when you have to flush with a bucket and then go refill the bucket.

We're running out of D batteries to power our electric lanterns at night to at least keep the baby calm, and there's none to be bought at any price. A few facebook friends offered me up some and that should keep us another day at least. Power restoration is predicted to take a WEEK OR MORE.

So far my marine fish are still alive, but they won't last much longer. I have a battery powered bubbler but I'm running out of batteries and it's undersized to begin with.

AND CL&P ***LOST*** OUR OUTAGE REPORT!!!

Good luck - wish I could help but am really too far away.

Guess with climate change we all will be having generators and fireplaces again so we will not be at the mercy of the supplied utilities!!

Where I am we only have the occaisional tornado watch/ bad thunderstorm - but killer mosquitos and lots of cold in the winter.

I know exactly how you feel! I live in Christchurch where we've had 3 major earthquakes in the last year...the one we had in February which was the worst was also when I happened to be at my worst with very frequent bathroom visits....no power for a week and worse still no water/sanitation for 3 weeks....makes life very difficult when you have screaming diarrhoea! we weren't allowed to use our toilets at all so had to get creative with buckets and holes in dug in the garden :ywow: thankgod it was summer! Definitly made a stressful situation a little more stressful thats for sure. Hope everything is calming down over there!

Oh man muppet that sucks. :(

I hope you get some sort of relief sooner rather than later!

@soretum, I don't even want to think about that! :eek2: You poor thing!

Dusty.

Well, I went a little overboard today. I called the power co to get an update on our outage and was told there was no record of our outage whatsoever. This was the second time they'd lost our report. I was livid.

The power company was posting feel-good PR stuff on facebook and twitter. I replied to all of it with our story and dissatisfaction. I emailed their PR person, who had been kind enough to give me her email address yesterday, and let her know what was going on. I called the customer service number and asked all the neighbors to do the same.

Note, while a huge chunk of our state is still in blackout, our street is in a town that had been 99.65% restored. They just seemed to have missed us and we didn't want to be passed by.

I think 99.9% of the reason this little campaign of mine worked is that crews were nearby anyway.

Anyhow after much tweeting, facebooking, phone calling, and emailing, I got a call from a higher-up in the customer service department telling me that our power would be restored by tomorrow morning. I also got a call from a tech in a truck asking about our outage and he told us he'd probably be out soon.

Sure enough our power was restored just about 2 hours ago. Thank God.

Living 65 hours without power or water makes you feel like you're living in a war zone. I can't imagine the poor people who are still out and may stay that way for a week or more. :(

EVERYTHING in our house is dirty. Izzy's routine has been DECIMATED for the past 2 and a half days. We're still cleaning up the clutter and putting our house back together.

And so far, the fish are still alive. I did lose a rare and delicate and BEAUTIFUL anemone, though. My clownfish are pretty upset about it.

I am glad that you got your power back on. Where I am it came back on yesterday. I am very happy for that! So many people and places are still without electric here. I feel so bad for them but it could have easily been where I am also. The surrounding towns near me do not have any still. There are so many trees down caught with wires and traffic lights out. My friend who works for National Grid (the gas company) said they are trying to help out with both electric and gas. They are working 16 hour days. It was a big storm. I thought mine would be out for days also but I got lucky. On the news they said there is still about 250k customers on Long Island with no power. Hopefully this new hurricane Katia will stay in the ocean and not come to land.

Muppet - where are you in CT? My parents are on the beach in Milford and still without power. Plus they get no cell service at their cottage so we only get updates when they walk down the road with their cell phone!!

Central. Lucky for us. Parts of Milford were compulsorily evacuated before/during the storm.

Yeah, my parents live on 6th Avenue. 1st thru 5th were evacuated! They were in a small pocket in their neighborhood that was allowed to stay. They are troopers. They got power back this morning and are having a party tonight to use up all the food that defrosted!!

Hope things are getting back to normal for you! -Ames

Glad to hear you got your power back on...it pays to stay on top of things and not just sit there waiting.....

Still so much devestation up where I am - roads totally washed away, one farm lost 22 horses in a flash flood - no idea where they ended up....

I wsa notified a little while ago that I will be working our Emergency Operations Desk for the next 4 nights....12 hour shifts.....was supposed to go to my in-laws....might still for the daytime, not sure yet.....

Heading to the airport after work today to get my Mom - she has been stranded since Sunday and finally able to get home!
