It really stinks to get older!! Back in December I fell outside at home and hyperextended my right elbow....wasn't bad, no breaks...was kind of bothering me so I had it checked in February at our local Bone and Joint Center. Doc I saw sent me on to an elbow/arm specialist who had me get a nerve study done.....results show I have nerve impingement above my elbow, which is not getting better so he is going to 'fix' me this coming Monday morning.....
Thought I'd share a little bit of my up/down rollercoaster this week trying to get cleared for surgery.....
Had to get an EKG done since I haven't had one in at least 2 years...I'm still spending every other week in Brooklyn for work so I made an appointment with an urgent care/cardiac center down here to get it done.....this is where the rollercoaster starts!
Get there and they don't know how to read the script I have - this is after not even taking any kind of a medical history (YES!!!).....they see ECG on the paperwork hand written (even though EKG is check marked!) and think it is an echocardiogram - so they do one - then they also do an EKG because I call the surgeons' office and get it clarified.....the girl doing the EKG has to run it (and reposition leads) 3 TIMES to get a reading....which comes out as abnormal - Septal infarct! (heart damage/past heart attack!!)...now I have no cardiac history aside from high blood pressure. So, I'm NOT cleared for surgery and ask them to send the info to the surgeons office and I'll handle it from there.
Fast forward a couple hours and the surgeons office calls me to confirm I saw the email about not being cleared - they recommend I head up to Albany, NY (3 hours drive on a good day) to the local walk-in cardiac care center and get checked.....I leave at @0430am the next morning as it was too late Monday to head up - and ge there at opening. Long story shorter - had a full workup there (12 lead EKG, bloodwork, Echo) and all came back NORMAL - Whew!!!!
Last piece was getting a Covid test done (NEGATIVE!), which I did Wednesday morning up there before heading back down here to Brooklyn for the rest of the week.
Man oh man, what a ride this week lol.......
So, I'm all set for a 9am arrival and 1030 surgery to have cubital tunnel release surgery done - hopefully that is all he has to do and not actually move the nerve which will be a slightly longer surgery and recovery time.....
If I'm not around much next week, that is why!!
