Just got out of the ER. Woke up this am to get ready for work and my ankles and feet were so swollen I could barely stand let alone walk. I'm missing more and more work as it seems my crohn's is getting worse or starting to show more. Some days I have such gut pain I don't want to even be alive, other days I'm so fatigued I can hardly bring myself to get out of bed. I know my Boss is starting to get frustrated, and a hard labor job shouldn't be what I do for a living. But I don't have too many options in today's economy. So, what do I do? Apply for disability? Anything else? Is it going to be enough? would I even get disability?

Sky - sorry you are feeling so poorly...I just took a look at some of your other posts - are you on any medications at this time? If not, you really need to be seen and put on something to get your symptoms under control and then on something to maintain you symptom free.....

Have you had your vitamin levels checked? Low vitamin B can cause fatigue, as well as deficiencies in other areas.

Hello, Sky!

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. :( Like pasobuff, I'm wondering if you're on any medication at the moment. It sounds like a new treatment plan is in order to get things under control so you can go back to your life.

 I hope things get better for you soon, Sky.

They just gave me another 7 day taper of prednisone, along with some nausea and pain meds. I say another, because the day after my wedding I went in and they put me on the same thing. Only for a few days now I have been on probiotics, multi-V, 1000iu of D3, MSM, and O3's. I am also on a Gluten and dairy free diet.

Seeing a Gastro is out of the question. I don't qualify for medicaid, and I sure as $4!+ can't afford anything with a pre existing, and my job doesn't offer any benefits.

Im terribly sorry you have to deal with this :(

The ER gave you the pred?

How long have you gone without a doctor since diagnosed/surgery?

I would look into the option of disability/SSI. I personally am not on it but I believe that there are limitations with regards to if you can/how many hours you can work. I'm going to tag afidz, she may be able to offer some guidance about what to expect if you apply for assistance.

I just looked at your previous post. I see you only just started the diet. with time it may help calm things but it should not be looked at as a cure, only something to help ease symptoms.

I've never had a personal doctor in my adult life especially a gastro, never had the funds.
I've had two surgeries Aug.'10 and Feb.'12.
I was diagnosed with biopsy of the First surgery. So Aug.'10.
Yes, the ER gave me a 7 day taper of prednisone.

I only have the one other thread with more info on me.

Thank you guys for the support and insight.

Still in need of information regarding Disability and what not. Any info from personal experience or professional would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sky. :D

You very well may qualify for disability. First thing you need to do is apply for either SSDI http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/index.htm and/or SSI http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/.

You will need a doctor to fill out some of the forms. A doctor who really wants you to get benefits. You can always go back to work once you're feeling better and stop getting benefits. They have programs to help you go back to work and school. When filling out the forms think about your worst days possible. Never mention that you sometimes feel fine.

Most people are denied their first time applying. You must appeal! Having a lawyer can help and is definitely worth it. They take a percentage of your winnings and don't get paid until you win.

Here's information on how you qualify for disability: http://www.crohnsforum.com/wiki/Disability-and-Crohns-USA

Once you win your case you will automatically qualify for Medicaid.

I receive SSI and I get enough to pay my rent, bills and for food. Not much money to play with but enough to LIVE off of. Since I have Medicade I only have to pay $5 if I go to the ER. Other than that everything else is paid for 100%.

Feel free to ask anymore specific questions.

Afidz is using Binder & Binder to try and qualify. She's been denied by SSI once already and has filed the appeal (well Binder & Binder did).
