Numbness

I don't see it listed as a side effect right away but since when are all listed anyway? If the numbness continues then you may want to go to the ER because you don't want it to be permanent assuming there's a damaged nerve or poor blood flow. Does the numbness change when switching positions? How long has it been going on?

I get numbness in my back and left leg in certain positions and am currently seeing a neurologist to figure out the cause (more than likely a nerve issue in my back or hip).

We've only been on Methotrexate for a month, but we haven't experienced numbness. Is he getting the shots in his arm? Maybe numbness is a symptom of low folic acid. It might be dehydration. Ryan gets some numbness when he isn't drinking enough liquids.

Sorry, I'm not much help. Hope it has resolved itself.

Hey lmp,

We have no experience with Methotrexate here but numbness is listed as a side effect...

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms or any symptoms listed in the important warning section of the medication insert, call your doctor immediately:

  • Weakness or numbness of an arm or leg

How are things going??

He has seen his Ped who did a complete neuro exam- he passed. So far no muscle weakness we can tell.
WE spoke to the on call GI ( not his doc since his doc was on vacation) and his neuro. We see his neuro in few weeks. We see new to us Rheumatology on Monday since he also had swelling /bleeding/joint pain and now the numbness. GI has ordered a ton of blood work. Ped ordered more blood work and I am sure Rheumo will add some too. His version of numbness is his arms/legs feel "weird" very heavy like he is asleep. IT has not stopped since Thursday.
HE is also getting bad migraines again but the numbness started before the migraines so.... Not sure if pred is playing a role. IF he has JRA and we are only seeing it now since he is not therapeutic on MTX yet and we are down to 10mg of pred. Last time on pred he had hand shaking so....It left once the pred was done.. Ped thinks its the Methotrexate but we have to "prove " it. Just waiting until Monday to talk to our GI.........

Crohn's is getting worse he was up last night due to stomach pain and needed to "go".
Just worried at this point.

I hope things are improving (and so sorry you have new worries!!!) You had mentioned earlier about 'redness' on his legs??? Did you ever get an explanation for that? Could it be related?
