I am 21 and a new mother with Crohn's. My dream is to go to nursing school and become a nurse. I've been in and out of hospitals since I was 11 and I've had a lot of unsympathetic nurses throughout my battle with crohns disease and I want to give people the care that I never received. I've been struggling with perianal Crohn's disease and right now I have a fistula with. Seton in place followed by the typical crohns symptoms. I'm hoping I can get this cleared up within the next couple years and go to when my son is old enough for day care.

Can anyone give advice and their story of being a mother with Crohn's disease attending nursing school and being a nurse?

I need some hope I can make my dream come true one day.

I just graduated from nursing school this past May and passed my boards and was given my license in April. YOU CAN DO THIS! I have two children, ages 4years and 4 months. School, two kids, a full time job, and CD was no cake walk; it took a lot of just sucking it up and pushing through, but I made it. Thankfully my family is extremely supportive, and I was able to go to an accredited online course so I only had to travel for clinicals. My instructors knew about my disease and we're very understanding, though I never asked for special treatment other than to know where the nearest bathrooms were :) It was doubly rewarding for me to be able to educate my fellow classmates about IBD; now I know that there are at least 11 other nurses out there that have a pretty good understanding of IBD and will be compassionate when faced with these patients.
I'm more than willing to share any info you might want or answer any questions :) IBD doesn't rule you. If you feel well enough to try it, GO FOR IT! :)
