Hello all.

I am re-posting an entry from another pediatric IBD board (DragonPack), something I have never done before. I'm doing it because I think many people on this board will be interested in the information about nutritional treatment of IBD. Folks may also want to look into the planned placebo-controlled clinical trials regarding nutritional treatment of IBD. (Hopefully I am not duplicating info that's already been posted. I did a brief search and didn't find anything.)

The only info I would add is that there is additional funding needed for the clinical trial. Columbia University is only providing 1/3 and the rest of the money will have to raised by others.

"Our child Brent was dx at 14 with UC (later changed to crohn’s). He went through all the meds available at that time ending up with remicade. After failing everything (he had a severe reaction to the remicade) and surviving on prednisone the doctors were ready to remove his colon.

Within that same week we found “The Foundation for Nutrition and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases in Children, Inc. (NIBD)” while doing research on the internet. It was formed to raise awareness and foster further research in nutrition for patients with IBD. After talking with them we scheduled an appointment and took Brent to see Dr. Grovit. What an awesome and caring doctor! He talked with us extensively and you knew immediately that this was his passion, treating kids with ibd. He gave us information to use for diet modification and the best vitamins and supplements for Brent to take.

Brent is now 23 and works full time as a job superintendent. He looks and feels great. He has had 2 flares since he was 16. One was due to a long acting penicillin injection and the other I believe was stress. Dr. Grovit has always been there for us, just a phone call away. He is the most caring doctor I have ever met.

Because of the diligence and perseverance of those working behind the scenes to advance research in nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease, NIBD has recently been ask to join in partnership with Columbia University Medical Center (where Dr. Grovit is an Adjunct Associate Research Scientist). This will help to advance the research in nutrition and inflammatory bowel diseases. The NIBD/Columbia University partnership aims to reveal the significant relationship of nutrition and the health and well- being of those afflicted with inflammatory bowel diseases.

Please check out the new web site and pass along to those who might be interested in joining. I can’t say enough about what a great cause this is. I am convinced Brent’s quality of life is because of NIBD.
