Hello everyone. Ive started with a flare last night which for me is bouts of debilitating pain. I was switched from Humira to Remicade and am due for my 4th infusion next week. I started entocort today, which is what my dr always puts me on in addition during a flare. I can’t leave my bed, the pain is radiating all over, no appetite at all. I usually have swelling in my right abdomen which is where I have a structure, but today I was getting swelling everywhere coming and going. As if different parts of my intestine were swelling. I felt like I could feel my intestines. Now my abdomen is so tender I can hardly press on it to see if there’s swelling. I have an appt at 1:15 tomorrow but right now that feels too far away. I took Tylenol and am using a heating pad with little relief. I’ve only taken small sips of water through the day. Any suggestions to get through the next 17 hours? Thank you

Hi, this sounds like a partial obstruction. Are you able to poop or pass wind? If not and If you vomit or start getting a fever or the pain gets too much go straight to ER. Take it from me you didn’t want to be ignoring a partial bowel blockage if it gets worse. Best of luck I hope it clears.

Thank you very much. It’s so hard to judge when the pain has reached that point. I get where I’m ready to head to the er cause I’m in so much pain and then it lets up for a little bit so I say I’m fine. I do get nervous of the complications of obstruction from this stricture though.

Thanks for taking the time to offer some help

Does the pain come in waves like cramping or constant? When I had my obstructions, it was more like in waves. I would be fine for 1 min, then intense pain. Was also very distended/bloated. I went to ER when I took hydrocodone with no relief and then could not stop throwing up. Do not ignore if you have fever or vomiting etc.
and I definitely understand...I could feel when food reached my stricture and feel my intestines moving the food through. Very weird.

It does come in waves and that’s exactly the feeling with my intestines. No fever or vomiting and the pain has definitely eased up with the entocort and not eating. I think the inflammation almost closes my intestines by the stricture. But my god the pain was horrific yesterday and got me very nervous. I’ve experienced pain like that that sent me to the hospital though there was never blockages just severe inflammation. This time though I was feeling swelling in parts of my belly I never had before which was concerning. Thank you for your response!

Sure. Not eating helps, but not a long term plan! :p

What helped me a bit was sipping small amounts of hot beverages (like hot tea). Sometimes that helped a little and to just stay hydrated. Hope you can get some relief.
