DS is on day 7 of IV antibiotics (Zosyn & Clindamycin) and says they leave a weird taste in his mouth. I've read this about Flagyl, but IV abx?? Anyone heard of this?

Not heard about IV antibiotics causing that, only oral, but could be possible. Any chance he could have developed thrush on his tongue? Might cause some taste issues

My daughter is able to taste IV medications. Should have seen her face when she tasted the white blood cells! Lol The tech said some people taste/smell what they are given intravenously.

When I was in the hospital earlier in the year on iv antibiotics , I was also, I think,on clindomysin I had a strange taste in my mouth. The nurse said some people are very sensitive to medications. It made me feel really nauseas too.
I hope your son is feeling much better. Steph x

You surely can taste IV meds Mehita. My kids haven’t commented it but many a patient I have nursed has.

Hope your lad is soon on the mend, bless him. :ghug:

Dusty. :)

Just checked his mouth... I think it might be early thrush. The back half of his tongue is a very light yellowish color. DS looked too and he agrees it looks funny. Going to the pediatrician tomorrow.

Plain, boring, nothingness lasted what? A day?

Clarithromycin definitely is known for causing a metallic taste, maybe clindamycin is a close cousin and does the same thing, perhaps?

The pediatrician said it's not classic thrush, but definitely could be full blown thrush in a few days. Hello, Nystatin, my old friend.

When DS was a baby he (and I) would get thrush all the time. It was crazy.
