Off Pred for a month. Aching hips and arms?

Hi

I finished my first load of Steroids a month ago. I'd been on them for 4 months and responded really well to them. I tapered as my doctor advised me to. When I had stopped completely, I felt very achey all over with bad headaches. I spoke to my Gastro Nurse and she said this was quite common.

I've been off them a month now and I still have very sore hips. It takes me a while to get moving if I've been sat down. Also, it feels like the muscles in my arms ache or are weak. I'm not sure if I'm still waiting for pred to leave my system. Is this a normal reaction after a month of no pred?

Thanks

Hello there. I had that too tapering and it took a while to settle down - a good few weeks. You have to carry a steroid card for a year after stopping, so I'm guessing the stuff must stay in the system for a while and/or there are medical implications.
Is your disease still active? Are you on a maintenance med after the Pred?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm on Asacol and Calcium tablets. I also take probiotics and fish oils. Back to Doc in May and discussing possibly going on Azathioprine but I think I'll try and see how I do without it. Flare up seems to be stable at the moment but pain in my arms, hips and knees is getting worse not better. It's nearly 5 weeks off Pred but just wondering if it will get better?! I'm 29 and wanting to get back exercising.
