Just a little FYI - I have managed to taper off the pred without tummy problems  I stopped it over a week ago and apart from a couple of tiny niggles that I know were food related I have been fine. Looks like the Aza is doing it's job :)

NB Had a few joint pains and fatigue but I have put this down to all the dosage changes with the increasing Aza and descreasing pred over the last few weeks.

Well done!! I remember coming off the pred and upping the Aza, it was a wonderful moment. I'm back on it (temporarily) but it's really great knowing you've cut out another thing with side effects :)

This sort off worries me , all I hear is people comming off Pred and I might be starting it soon according to the new GI . So is it that bad ?
Angry bird if this means your improving then Im delighted for you and long may it last .
Peter

No, it works wonders, but I was on it for 7 years without coming off and long term it has bad side effects.
I'm back on it at the moment but only until my flare clears. It's good for getting rid of a flare.. but long term it's not great. Don't worry, I'm sure your doctor is more sensible than mine was and you are more clued up than I was. :)

Hi Peter, it is a good thing to come of the Pred as ideally it should only be used for the short term to get inflammation under control and keep it there whilst a maintanence drug gets introduced. A lot of people don't like it because of its side effects both short and long term, the thing is it does a very good job at sorting the inflammation out and usually doesn't take long for you to feel the benifit of it so it's a catch 22 type of med. If your GI does end up putting you on it pls make sure you are also given a calcium supplement to protect the 'ol bones.

Thanks AB , I already have problems with my joints and would not be keen on making this worse. But I suppose I have to way things up really. I know from the new GI he is intent on getting to the bottom of this ( parden the pun) and he did outline several ways forward so the results come through next week as far as I know and then we shall meet again for the verdict and sentence !

Woohoo! Fab news AB!

I am so happy for you hun and I have everything crossed that the good times just keep on keeping on! :goodluck:
