I swear, I can't win for losing! I woke up this morning and I have a backache, and burning with urination. I go out and buy one of those home test pee on a stick things and sure enough, the wbc turns purple immediately. The nitrates however did not. So i've got some kind of infection, but hell if I know what. I bought some of the OTC stuff and I'll call my doc tomorrow, but I seriously did not need this.

The reason it's a particularly bad time is that I'm having twenty people over to dinner Tuesday and Wednesday night! The house is in holiday uproar, I'm cleaning, cooking, setting up big tables, etc. I sooooooooooo do not need this on top of everything else!

and PS- I also have one of those damn ulcers on my soft palate so it's bugging me all day. Grrrr.

No, I've never had kidney stones. The backache was just this morning,it eased up as the day went on. The burning however, is like razor blades, and my middle aches. Ugh.

Could it be a bladder infection? Burning while urinating sounds like that could be it.
Whenever I feel a bladder infection coming on I pound some cranberry juice, and it never gets worse. Could be it wasn't one to begin with though.

Yeah, that's what I think, but there were no nitrates, so I'm not sure. I'm definitely pushing fluids. My mom is a retired RN, that was the first thing she told me.

Talked to the doc today, he said there are some UTI's that don't show nitrates, and gave me an Rx. The OTC stuff is REALLY helping w/ the pain. phew.

The back pain, I'm not entirely sure. I've been having it on/off some, but we've also been preparing the house and cooking for having 20 people over tonight and tomorrow night, so maybe its that, although I did get worried for a little bit last night that it might be kidney related. It's not bad enough for that though, I don't think.

The worst part of today is, I woke up with D again. At the risk of sounding totally gross, it was pouring out like water. And I have 20 people coming to dinner...whimper...

Drinking huge amounts of water could be part of the watery diarrhea. Depending on how much you're drinking and how good your absorption is you may not be able to absorb all the water before it makes it to the other end. It may or not be a good trade for a longer lasting UTI. You could try drinking lots of water but giving it a rest an hour or two before the dinners.

Pen, it is the Jewish New Year, and we have family dinner here for two nights. I ended up just eating some potatoes and carrots, and a little bit of chicken broth, and did ok. Tonight we do it all over again. I DO think the stress of the holiday has something to do with it, it seems pretty clear that there is a link between stress and illness. So far today, i'm feeling mostly better, except my upper back is killing me. (we call it "holiday back" here;) )

Colt, that's a good point that i didn't even think of. I've never noticed a correlation between liquid intake and output that way, but it makes sense. I don't know how well my absorption is, but I do know I have a rapid small bowel transit, so it stands to reason there might be a connection. Oh, and I love your new avatar.

I find I have to drink a lot otherwise everything stops moving. Perhaps I absorb water too well?

I don't know any Jewish people, so I have no idea how the Jewish calendar works. Is it lunar?

Don't over eat! :D

Creepy, yes, it's Lunar. And I just ate a piece of raisin challah (bread) and a potato. BORING, but it was safe. I'll eat leftovers this week when i don't have anywhere to be, hee hee!

Dingbat, Thank you! :hugs:

Thanks, sweetie! I'm an administrator on another forum, and we have people, like here from all over. It's always very cool to learn about others, and it's always amazing to me how even people just in the states have such different experiences and exposures.

i heard that too Pen, back in the early days when i was first diagnosed, that Crohns was highly prevalent in Sephardic Jews.. but these days there are so many people from all religions/locations who have Crohns, i wonder if the statistics, if taken now, would completely lose that bias.

I've been told that being of Ashkenazi descent makes you more at risk. I am Ashkenazi. Here is a good description I found outlining what the difference is:

Ashkenazi Jews descended from medieval Jewish communities of the Rhineland. Many Ashkenazi Jews migrated east towards Germany, Russia, Poland, and Hungary. Now days, many Ashkenazi Jews speak Yiddish or other Slavic languages such as Knaanic and their culture is similar to those that surround their area. Back in time, during the 11th century, Ashkenazi Jews only consisted of about 3 % of the Jewish population in the world but now days they consist of about 80 % of the world's Jewish population. Many Jews in the USA are Eastern Ashkenazi.

A Sephardic Jew is one that originated in the Iberian Peninsula, this includes Spain and Portugal. Even though Ashkenazi isn't as popular as it once was, many non Ashkenazi's are Sephardic, since they need to choose a group; this is for religious purposes and are identified in modern Israel. While there are many other types of Jews which include ones that originate from places like Africa and Asia, you will typically see many Sephardic Jews coming from Europe. Sephardim under Islam originally started when Tariq ibn Ziyad won in 711, once this happened, the lives of Sephardic Jews changed. While this history is a bit tedious to understand, you can see why they don't exist much anymore.

Pen, I do wonder, the Ashkenazi Jews were more likely to live in cities than the Sephardic, I know that much, so maybe it's something to do with hygiene again.

Oh yeah, I guess I can edit my profile, I'm in Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. :hugs:
