First off - I had a resection 8 years ago. I have been pretty much in remission since. HOWEVER (damn disease!), I have recently been having these cramps on my left side. I posted about it several months ago.

I have no bloody stool, no fever, no intense pain, no real naseau (unless i overeat), no weight loss. My only symptoms are real discomfort and bloating on my left side from the bottom of my rib to my pelvis. When I "push" during a movement it gets worse and there is a knot of small pain in my pelvis area.

My question is this: Could I be having a minor flare-up? My whole left side is sooooo uncomfortable - not in pain, just annoying. And it causes me so much worry and stress!!!

I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in a few weeks but am going mad. I am not on any meds and gas meds aren't really helping!!

Thanks for any info or experience...

I had surgery 3 years ago, sadly I did not go into remission. It picked up right where it left me. I too experienced pain on my left side, lower in the hip region, not really painful, just nagging and off and on. I have had a colonoscopy, but they couldn't go up that far of course. The area they did look at on my right side showed activity, it also hurt on that side as well. That is where they tied my guts together again. I believe that the left side is being affected as well, it is the same type of pain. Maybe they need to do a follow through ex-ray on you to capture what is happening. Let us know how your test goes. Here's to hoping for the best.

I had surgery in June 2010. I had a few months of relatively normal life then the d came back. Nothing like the hideous obstruction symptoms but still not remission. In August it started the whole abscess/fistula process. It seems kind of like it changes how it affects you sometimes.

Good luck!

When you say hip, do you mean the joint? It is possible that it may not be bowel issues at all, but joint or nerve (arthitis, AS, sciatica for example, and yes, they can cause more pain when you push for a movement). More info needed...

Thanks for the info and replies. riversilt and sailorluna - sorry to hear about the symptoms coming back so soon after surgery. I consider myself ridiculously blessed to have been without major symptoms since the surgery. That is, until now apparently.

Shamrock15: It isn't a nerve pain. It is cramping: On my left side from the belly button to the left 2-3 inches and then down 3 or so inches. PLUS intermittent cramping and bloating from the bottom of my left rib cages straight down from mid pec - down to the aforementioned spot. It isn't necessarily painful, although it doesnt feel good. It is just uncomfortable. I am a little worried I am having an obstruction - but I am passing gas really normally.

I am assuming I am having a flare-up of some kind - albeit probably mild, since I don't have really any of the major symptoms of a moderate-severe flare. OR I am having a bad one and I am just experiencing it differently.

We will see.....

Hi could it be diverticulitis? Is the cramping constant or intermittent? Is it worse after you eat and do ur bloods show anything? Sorry to hear your in pain but you might need a CT scan to have a look.
