Hi fellow Crohnies...

I need your help with a project that I am doing for my local CCFA chapter. I need people who have Crohn's or UC to write one paragraph about why they need to raise awareness and money for IBD. For those of you who participate in fundraising events, such as walking, running, biking, luncheons, etc., please tell me what these events mean to you.

Please indicate whether it is ok for me to publish your paragraph/brief story for others to read.

I will say something like this:

Next summer will be my third year participating in the Take Steps walk in the Seattle area. I do this because it is an amazing opportunity for me to use my voice and experience with Crohn's to reach out to people in my area. Without the money raised during these events we wouldn't have the valuable programs and research to move forward with finding a cure. CCFA also uses the money we raise to send kids with IBD to camp each summer. Most importantly, I walk because I don't want my son to know the pain that Crohn's can cause.

"I feel it is crucial and paramount to raise awareness about a disease as debilitating, mysterious, costly, and even life threatening, as Crohn's Disease for many obvious reasons, but above all, because for many of us sufferers, someone like me isn't even physically capable of leaving my house to participate in fund raisers, awareness projects, or even live support groups, all due to the incapacitating symptoms and state I'm in due to this illness. Some of us aren't even well enough to raise money and spread the word, and the stigma about the taboo symptoms at hand makes it equally difficult to speak of such unwellness to even close friends and family, as such, even they may not be aware of the anguish and pain. Thus, Crohn's Disease is so crippling, it can even sensor its very own existence."

I like to write, you can use it Amy.

Perfect! Thank you!!! If we make up the flyer, as expected, I'll mail you a copy.

You mentioned not being able to participate....the first year I walked they only had 2 port-a-potties out on the course. I think they've learned since then!
