One year after resection: localized abdominal pain, especially after workout (lifting)

Hello all,

I am 25 male with Crohns, diagnosed 2 years ago. 12.5 months ago I had a small bowel resection to remove 8 inches of terminal ileum and a little bit of colon. In "remission" with Humira and budesonide.

About 6 months ago I started realizing that I could "feel" the bottom right hand part of my abdomen, under my scar, ostensibly where my bowels were cut and put together, whenever perhaps bad food went by or if I was due for a rough bowel movement. The pain is manageable but it is definitely linked with a (somewhat uncommon) bout of painful diarrhea or similar.

Even worse, this abdominal feeling is accentuated by moderate lifting at the gym. A workout of not-too-heavy presses, pullups, dips, etc. (harder than a walk, but miles short of earthshattering efforts) aggravates this area. If I eat anything for at least 1 to 2 to 3 (even?) hours afterwards, I feel pain there. The next day after a workout, I have a small bout of very painful (acidic) diarrhea, sometimes strangely in the middle of otherwise well-formed feces. Even now I can stand up, tighten my midsection, and feel pressure on the area.

So ... anyone experience anything like this before? I am concerned that I am actively hurting myself by continuing like this, but on the other hand I am not content to just sit idly while my life goes by.

Thank you for your time.

It's one of those things that needs a pair of eyes on it! A hernia is a possibility, does it bulge at all? Exercise can make hernias worse if thats what you have. Occasionally the intestines get stuck in a hernia. Adhesions can also cause pain which is exacerbated by movement and can constrict the bowel leading to diarrhea etc. Also I have all sorts of lumps, depressions and general weird looking stomach after multiple surgeries, so sometimes there's a cosmetic side. Get your doc to take a look or better still a surgeon.
