I couldn't take it anymore and got my doctor to up my pred to 20mg. Right now i am on methotrexate which isn't doing well along with paxil and fibro drugs etc.

But, I got to the point where i couldn't walk into the kitchen and getting 4 feet to the bathroom from bed was just horrible.

He put me on 20mg pred instead of 10mg (have been on 10for 5yrs) and I can not only walk in the kitchen, but i can walk the grocery store which I did last night, did some laundry and dishes too.

They have tried arava and some other lower cost meds but they didn't work or made my liver go haywire.

So far, pred is my only treatment that works.

Wow I would die if I had to be on prednisone for 5 yrs. I'm glad that you are feeling better and have gotten some quality of life back. Wishing you all the best

Thanks Joe. I have a rare condition that not only attacks the normal areas, but attacks my organs, muscles etc.

Before prednisone I was 100% bed ridden and in so much pain I would pass out from time to time. My husband was my muscle and had to life my legs, lay me in bed, roll me over etc.

This drug is my savior, I just hope it doesn't quit on me.

Wow, it's so different hearing about someone who is excited to go on higher doses of Prednisone. I'm so glad it's helping you get a better quality of life :D

Hey that sounds really rough to deal with. Can I ask is that IBD related, caused by IBD or some other illness, as I know that pred is used to treat ilnesses other than IBD?

Really glad you're doing better and getting more mobile, hope things continue to improve.

Glad you have found some relief, shanbr! :)

Re: pred - at a high dosage (for me that is 20mg) I am a nervous, weepy, awful mess. Once down below that, though, I can tolerate the stuff.

Yep - that's the thing about pred... it really does work. It's a love-hate kind of medication... I hate the side effects, but it's really saved my butt (ha!) when I've been having a bad flare. I would hate to have to be on it again - but, I know if things got out of hand, pred is always there... Glad to hear the dose is working for you, and hope you're able to taper off of it successfully one day.
