Hi All,
Been getting a lot of mouth ulcers. Usually on the roof of my mouth or the very top of my throat. Been given Hydrocortizone tablets to treat them with by my GP & I also use antiseptic throat spray. My worry though is the terrible headaches I get with them, it appears to be affecting the side of my head the ulcer is on & also my ear. Then finally the top of my head, really a tad worried about this. Have mentioned it to the Specialist Nurse & got the impression they've accepted I've now got Crohns in the mouth. So painful though. On average I get them about once a week which is far too often for my liking.

Hi Grant, very very sorry for the late reply. I have not had this issue, st most just canker sores so I'm going to tag Sailorluna and SarahBear to see if they have anymore information to share with you.

I hope you contacted your GI about it and are getting better treatment for it by now. Any update? Keep us posted on how you're doing. :)

Hi Jennifer, well I contacted the gastro team & they just told me to carry on with the Hydrocortisone tablets & Throat Spray & painkillers. I think they've accepted I'm getting it there.
Tks for the reply

Grant,

My Crohns is primarily in my mouth/throat as well. I feel your pain (literally). I spent the longest time using throat sprays/etc. I tend to get earaches if the ulcers end up on the roof of my mouth/uvula. I take Acetaminophen and drink ice cold water/Gatorade. Freezing cold drinks help numb my throat.

Wish I could offer more help...

Hi Grant , I have always suffered with mouth ulcers (it was one of my 1st symptoms) and it's always the 1st sign that a flare is on the way. I have been in a flare on/off since about april and I have very bad mouth ulcers at the moment. I get them on the roof of my mouth too and can sometimes be painful to even drink water. I have got Hydrocortizone tablets too at the moment. I am also taking Pred which has cleared them up but as soon as I get down to 10mg the mouth ulcers and abdo pain start up again. So far I haven't really found much that works , have tried various mouth washes and sprays , which I knew how to get some relief from them :(

TrumpetGuy310, yep earache & very bad headaches. Its horrible. Makes me very down I have to say.
Joleen23, poor you. I've been through that weaning off Pred cycle & had trouble getting right off them. Entocort as well.
Tks to you both for sharing your experiences.

Grant,
I am sorry you are dealing with this. I get these occasionally but I use "Mouth Sore Rinse" from Colgate and it seems to help in a few days. Clearly mine has never been as bad as what you are going though. Good luck, I hope you get this under control.

One of my symptoms is also mouth sores, but they seem to be directly related to sugar. Prior to being diagnosed, even if I had the smallest amount of sugar, I would soon start getting a ton of cankers.

After being diagnosed with Crohn's and having numerous problems with my intestines, the canker sores started to go away after taking prednisone .

Hi, Grant! I'm sorry to hear what you're dealing with. :( I just wanted to suggest you consider seeing a dentist as well - when I had mouth ulcers, my dentist had more helpful information on cleaning them / treating the pain than my GP did.

I hope things get better for you soon!

Tks SarahBear, as it happens I saw a dentist just two weeks ago & told them & they never said anything. Typical!!

Grant,
I also get ulcers on the roof of my mouth. Wild oregano oil is what has helped me. It tastes awful but makes them go away and relieves the pain. if you don't want to drink it you can dip a Q tip in it and hold it directly on the canker sore for as long as you can. it will burn but then go numb and after a few treatments they go away. My 3 yr old son also gets these sores and this even works on him. Good Luck

Hi Grant,

I went to see an Oral Med Specialist (dentist referral) who prescribed me with a Dexamethasone mouth rinse and anti-fungal lozenge. Good thing about the rinse is its topical so no crazy steroid side effects as with the systemic. The lozenges are just a precaution because the mouth rinse "could" create a favourable environment for thrush. (Touch wood so far so good!)

The results have been fantastic!

Tks Dean, I've written that down & I'm going to ask for some next time I see the specialist.

Hello everyone,

I didn't know whether to begin a new thread since you're mostly talking about mouth ulcers and my problem isn't at all that serious...

I have no idea if it's related to CD in any way, but it happens whenever I eat/drink something for the first time in a day. The top of my mouth and throat, near the uvula, immediately get sore, like a tightening sensation, and I get small bumps that will usually go away towards the end of the day.

I know, it's barely nothing, but it's quite annoying. Anyone knows about this? Thank you! :)
