Hi everyone,
I had a colectomy and colostomy last March and have adjusted quite well. I intended to have further surgeries and procedures so that I could be reversed as soon as possible, but have decided to stick with this for now since I am feeling so fabulous!
Along those lines - since I'm feeling so great, I've been eating everything I enjoy, from the good stuff to the bad, and have gained a bunch of weight. While I am very happy with a bag (weird to say, right?!), I do find that it comes along with its own body issues. One of those is a concern for the tops I wear- they can't be too close fitting or small because I worry that people will be able to detect that I have something under there when it bulges a bit...And another thing, is my weight. Because of the bag (which sometimes makes it look like I'm slightly bigger in the belly than I am) and since I have gained weight (because I can finally enjoy eating again), I'm a bit self conscious.
As a result, I decided to try out the South Beach Diet. A friend of mine has been on it for a while and he's doing very well and totally sold me on it. Meanwhile, I'm in my second week and I've noticed an increase in my output. Not only that, but often the output is very liquidy. While I am drinking more than I usually do, I worry that the amount and form of the output might be a sign that I am not actually absorbing much of the food or nutrients...I worry that I'm doing something bad and that I shouldn't actually be following the diet. (By the way, for those who aren't familiar with it, South Beach Diet is a low-card, higher protein diet. You're supposed to cut out all sugars and carbs - except veggies - for the first 2 weeks. That means no grains, complex carbs, or fruit for 2 weeks!)
Another thing that adds to the concern, is I've been feeling a bit lethargic. I'm not sure if it's the diet, or the fact that it's very warm and muggy here (which is always draining for me).
Thoughts? Suggestions? Is this diet a terrible idea?
Any guidance would be so very appreciated! Thanks in advance!
