My story begins when I was seven. I always remember having an upset tummy and I was really constipated. Went through several testing and was diagnosed with IBS. Had an appendicitis when I was 13, so bye bye appendix, we thought that would help with my tummy problems...HA
When I was 19 I started getting severe abdominal pain following with diarrhea. After a few months I decided to go to the gastro and did another handful of testings - colonoscopy, endoscopy, HIDA scan, an ultra sound and other "useless" tests (I say that out of anger) .I tried Omeprazole and Bentyl, then he put me on Asacol and Prilosec. Didn't see a change nor did I feel better, needless to say he wasn't any help so I went to another dr.
My first few visits with the new doc consisted of me telling him my symptoms and then blood work. He stated I could either have UC or CD. I wasn't too familiar with either one, just knew CD wasn't curable...blood work came back - and now I'm a "Crohnie"
Did the pill cam (amazing what kind of technology we have these days) then he put my on Aciphex, Entocort and Levsin - for the pain. Well my insurance was crappy and I didn't have a good paying job so I couldn't afford my medication anymore. A couple months went by and I couldn't take it anymore, I had to do something. I went back to my dr and then he prescribed me Humira, and that scared the living sh*t out of me - no pun intended. And that's when I gave up. I went into denial.
About two years went by and things started getting out of control, the pain was unbearable and my bathroom at work was way too far from my desk... I then decided I wanted to basically start over and start fresh, I now have a good paying job and great insurance so I went to yet another doctor. He prescribed me Entocort and Tylenol3, had another colonoscopy - my small intestine could not be examined because of a narrow scarred ileocecal valve. That is where my "active" Crohns is making its home.
Conclusion of my medication: Entocort , 6mp and Levsin.
And for now blood work every week.
That is where I am now...
Ok so I think Im done...Sorry I decided to give you my extended version, I've never sat down and really thought about what I've been through so I got a little carried away. But I'm manly here for support, not that I don't get it from home, I just need someone to talk to that knows what I'm going through, so here I am =)
Thanks for reading my story
