Hey all! I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season :) I know I did! I have a question for my fellow ostomates. I've had an ileostomy for 3.5 years now. No real problems except for minor skin irritation. Lately, however, ive noticed something new when I eat roughage. If I eat a salad ( I'm in remission as well) I get alot of liquid almost immediately! There isn't any food in it, as that usually comes at the usual time frame(2-4hrs) There is absolutely no pain or cramping. Just a full bag of watery liquid, sometimes two. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

Thunderstruck, My stoma gets active whenever I eat and it is mostly liquid. However I have noticed that when I am expecting undigested food to pass through, such as peas or apple or seeds from bread, I get a lot of liquid first even if its been a long time since I ate anything else. Almost like the gut goes into overdrive and puts out extra liquid to help the roughage pass thru. So similar to your situation but I don't really know what causes it.

Yes!!! It's so strange. It's like it's gearing up to push everything out!

I know sometimes it could be the result of too much bacteria, or bad bacteria in your bowels.
