I had some spicy food yesterday and now have a lot of pain in the site where the small intestine was removed. This really scares me it's been a month since surgery and I wonder if crohns is back.

Well, you sound like me, living dangerously! It is most likely scar tissue, and you should be due a follow up with surgeon soon?

Take it easy on what you eat for awhile. A nice low residue diet for instance?

Hopefully it isnt the crohns coming back!

My GI said its probably scar tissue. That makes me really depressed as the point of surgery is to remove scarring. Do you think it can be a little scar or we are talking needing another surgery scar.

The surgeon said I don't need to see him anymore. I never got a CT scan or anything for followup to see what's going on there. Not sure if that is normal procedure or not.

Probably the surgeon intends for you to see your GI for followup then?

You'll need to. I'm sure it's not too bad, and wont require more surgery just yet. Take it easy on what you are eating and let your body recover. When are you seeing your GI?

Hi, I wouldn't worry overly much about the pain just yet. You are only a month out of surgery so your muscles will still be healing and settling down as well as everything else. My doc told me that after 6 weeks things would improve and then after 8 weeks things would really settle down. Even now about 14 weeks after surgery, I will still get a sharp 'tug' if I lift something really heavy. At the same stage as you I could still feel a really hard, fairly big bit of scar tissue under my belly button, now though it's all gone really soft except for a little bit that feels the size of a peanut. Also I think you may need to still watch what you eat for a little while longer :) I also never had any scans to look at the operation site and the surgeon has only done an outside visual of the scars and prodded my belly - everything is nice and soft so she was a happy chappy with her work.

It just seemed the pain went away after week 3 and now it's back that's why it's scary. I pray for no more surgery.

It's early days it is still fresh and healing and spicy food was prob a bit too acidic on the wound, imagine it like a cut on your finger you wouldn't put vinegar on it as it would sting. It takes at least 6 weeks for the body to naturally heal but can be longer. I still 1yr post surgery get the odd grumble at the surgery site but def less and less as time goes on. I would say your surgeon has discharged you quite early mine saw me at 6 weeks, six months and again sometime this year to check up on things. A follow up scan is not routine as they should be able to keep an eye on you by your health status. Try not to worry unless the pain is so severe or accompanied by fever etc. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery

Thank you Archie. I agree they released me back in to the world too quickly. They say the intestines should be fully healed but hearing from others it's hard to believe that could be.
