Pain in Bladder???

I have had crohns almost 2 months. I am currently taking 40mg of predisone and have had one remicade infusion. I have had two really bad flares that left me in the hospital and one that almost put me in the hospital. During the last flare something (I think my intestines swelling up) caused a lot of pressure to be but on my bladder. I would get sharp pains in the bladder area just from straightening my back and my bladder was swollen and very sensitive to the touch. This caused some terrible pain. I seem to be slowly improving but bladder area still is pretty sore. I didn't want to go to the hospital but now I'm wondering if I should go to make sure I don't have any bladder fistulas or other issues going on. Does anyone else have any experience with weird bladder pain, or advice?

Joe

Hi Joe.

I don't have any experience in this area. You should probably get it checked out (or at least call the doctor).

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I don't have this disease but my 5 yr old does.
She has bladder issues as well.
I would vote yes to seeking help sooner than later.
We were told if your dealing with bladder issues because of this disease
it can quickly turn into kidney issues before you know it.
Once kidneys are involve thing s can get bad rather quickly.

I'll tag on DustyKat . One of her children had some kidney issues because of their IBD.

I don't have any answers, but I've been experiencing this lately, too. It's very frustrating. If you find answers, please keep us updated!

You should definately get this checked. As you say this may be caused by your bowel. Therefore it might not be your bladder at all. You don't mention any urinary symptoms? I'm guessing you're male...Without a womb in the way sometimes unusual relationships form between bladder and bowel. But investigations are the only way you'll narrow the cause down.

I agree with the others, Joe. If you are worried and still in pain, ask if you can have some tests. Do you have any pee issues - urgency, burning, bubbly urine? I had an abscess and fistula to the bladder. My stomach in that area was swollen and hot to the touch and I would get horrible shooting pains into my groin. A CT and/or MRI are good tests for showing up this type of complication.

Hi Joe and welcome. :)

As as been said, have it checked out as to what may be causing the pain. Generally speaking a fistula would cause air and/or debris in the urine but may not always produce this symptom.

Certainly an inflamed and swollen bowel pressing against the bladder would cause the pain and discomfort you describe and it is not uncommon for the bowel to this to the surrounding structures. If this has been going on for some time then you do run the risk of the constant contact between the surfaces developing into complications so again it would be best to have it checked out.

Hopefully no damage has been done and the combination of Prednisone and Remicade will reduce the swelling and so alleviate the problem and you will soon feel on top things again. Good luck!
