Hi all so while ive been training for my 10k ive been noticing i need to stop running due to pain in my abdomen its at the sides and near my hips im not sure if this is due to the inflammation or not or is the norm the pain goes away when i stop running but comes back when i start back up again. Just wondered if anyone else has had this. Am currently on 20mg of predisolone and 6 tablets a day of pentatsa

When I was coming out of my flare, I got pain whenever I walked for mpre than 5 minutes at a time. The pain was just inside my hip bones. As my symptoms gradually improved, so did the pain, so I assume it was linked to inflammation.

can we rule out a simple stitch? Running is very harsh on the body and if you havent done any running for a while then train for something like a 10k it can be stressful on the body (as my bro has just found out, his shin muscles are hurting)

Make sure you allow the body to rest and heal, so dont go too hard on the training. Maybe a bit of interval training may be better for you (fasty running for a short period, say a min, follwed by fast walking for 30secs-1min) personally i find this the best way to get in shape as it doesnt allow the heart and lungs get in any rhythm thus making them work harder

hey all thanks for the messages, i dont think its a stitch pain cos when i was walking to it was there slightly but could deffinatly feel it more when running and it was more intense to the point i had to put my hand and apply pressure to it to get me past a checkpoint and then i stopped and had to walk the rest of the way because the pain was to much, maybe it is down to the inflammation as im having trouble weaning off of predisolone without my symptoms coming back so maybe thats why i just wondered if anyone else had this problem as i dont obviously want to be having this problem everytime im trainin as it will be a real pain in the bum lol

get your ileum checked. I first complained about hip problems and my doctor thought I had arthritis b/c I was an avid runner...that is how all of this Crohn's things started with me... I didnt get it with running though... I had it all the time...even standing. It runs down my thigh and my pelvic/groin area. It also feels like I pulled a muscle in my butt...
I stopped running and it turned out to be my ileum. My pain was radiating to my hip, butt, and thigh (sometimes right down to my knee cap.) I havent ran since and it has been 3 years..

Hi keona,

The inflammation where my doctors have seen is in my terminal ileum where there is narrowing so have been put on the steriods and pentasa. I have no idea why this is happenin its even doing it now when i walk normally

i often develop pain under both ribs when i run (and sometimes when i'm walking), but i think it's more like a stitch for me. i've been running regularly for maybe 10 months now, and i still haven't found a way to run for more than 20-30 minutes straight without getting the cramps. i wish i had some helpful insight for you! maybe ask your doc for some advice? good luck with your 10k and :hang:

How gradually did you start training? Is it possible you increased your mileage too quickly? Maybe take a few days off or decrease your mileage for a bit. It sounds like stress on your body to me, but if it persists I would definitely see someone about it.
