Has anyone else here had a lot of unexplained pain after an open laparotomy, resection or strictureplasty?

I am almost 3 weeks post op (Monday will be 3 weeks) and the random zapping, sharp stabbing, and muscle spasm types of pains have been increasing instead of decreasing. I know sometimes it feels like it may be a bit of trapped gas, other times it feels like nerves coming back to life, and then sometimes it feels like I will bust a stitch inside from food I've eaten trying to process.

My bathroom habits haven't quite regulated yet. I went from being able to eliminate easily and often, to now more of a constipation type of problem. Let's just say things are not happening easily, and when they do, there isn't much produced. Also, what is produced reminds me a lot of the problem I was having BEFORE the strictureplasty (very thin stools) - I'm wondering what gives here?!?!!

The pain I've had comes on completely unannounced and without any warning, then it shoots down from either one of my sides or the very inside and center of my belly, straight down and into the bladder/groin/pubic area...sometimes even causing...well...the feeling of a butt cramp. I know it sounds silly, but believe me, this is all quite painful. I can deal with the random nerve pains every now and again, but lately these pains feel like they've gotten out of control and have left me feeling very frazzled, short-tempered, and just exhausted.

This was my fourth time to go under the knife for Crohns, but I don't recall ever dealing with pains quite like these. Aside from that, I seem to be healing well.

Has anyone else had anything similar happen after surgery, and if so, would you mind sharing your experience(s) on what it was and if/when it ever finally goes away?

I'm ready to start feeling better already!

I would appreciate any and all feedback from those who have experience in this area.

Thanks-a-bunch!

Matt had an open resection at the beginning of April and I'm sure he didn't suffer the pains you are the describing. He wasn't using any analgesia outside of the occasional Panadol so I am assuming he mustn't have. He mainly felt pain and discomfort when using his abdominal muscles, so when getting up out of chairs, changing position from lying to sitting or twisting when getting in and out of the car, that sort of thing.

He was still guarded at the stage you are and tended to walk with a slight stoop. It was at the beginning of week 4 post op that the most noticeable change took place, it was then that he started to quite move freely and shades of the old Matt started to appear.

I had a resection Feb. 14th of this year and for the first month at home I was tender. I had to use pillow to hol on my belly when I walked. But then slowly the pain went away. i did take the pain meds every night so I could sleep. but I would go back to the doctor and be checked if that pain does not subside.
