Hi Im new to this site .My partner has recently been diagnosed with Chrohn's Disease after many years of suffering . There does not seam to be alot of help out there relating to chrohns. We have seen a nutritionist this week to try and help him (Brian). She has got him to try UltraInflamx I hope it helps him. It took 18 months to get diagnoses . I have watched him be so poorly felt bad as there is nothing I can do. The doctor said he has an Ulcer in his stomach as well he is being tested for a parasite too. He can not eat dairy ,bread to be honest anything with added sugars or milk. Some mornings he is in agony they have gave him Pantasa to take 8 tablets a day .He says it does not make him feel any better ! I am with him all the way bless him its just so hard when there is nothing you can really do? Thanks for listening Michelle:ysmile:

Hi Michelle,

Hopefully now that they know he has CD they will find meds that work for him. (Although it may take a while.) And don't think that you are doing nothing to help your partner. I have CD and even though none of my family members or boyfriend can do anything to make me physically well, it just helps to have their support, compassion, and empathy when I am feeling at my worst.

Hope things start looking up for you both soon!

Hi Michelle and welcome to the community!

Did all your nutritionist do is suggest to try UltraInflamx? If so, they're terrible and I suggest you seek another nutritionist as soon as possible. UltraInflamx is pretty much crap in my opinion and there is so much you can do with IBD when it comes to diet and nutrition.

Is the only medication he's on Pentasa?

Hello Michelle and welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear that Brian is still struggling to feel better :( You hae come to the right place though to get lots of helpful info about this disease so I am really pleased you have decided to join.

I was also wondering if Pentesa was the only med he has been given since diagnosis?

Hi we saw nutritionist on friday just gone .She said to try rice cakes , corn thins? as my better half Brian was not having enough calories a day. For the past year he has lived on 2 tins of mackerel for breakfast . water melon for lunch and chicken stir fry for dinner .He was really down as the doctor we saw said take these meds Pantasa and your'll be fine. His specialist Dr Goggin said that it is nothing to do with diet .We knew it has something to do with diet as alot of things he eats makes him ill. Potatoes are one of them , milk , bread , tea . He drinks loads of water . With reference to other question he has tried Prednisone too.
He has the tablet camera and they say he has a Ulcer in his stomach so he is being tested for a parasite too.Can not remember the name ?
He is going to see the specialist end of August to see how things are going with the Pantasa and results for the Ulcer.
He has not had the throat camera as he is petrified of it?
I think that will have to be the next thing he has done bless him.Im glad I found this web site as there is so much imformation on crohns.

Your nutritionist said Ultrainflamx, rice cakes, and corn thins? Good grief, they're hopeless.

When it comes to diet for Crohn's Disease, especially if potatoes, milk, and bread hurt him, I would research the paleo diet or the specific carbohydrate diet. Quite a few people with Crohn's do well with those diets.

In addition, if he hasn't been tested for vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate, and magnesium deficiencies, request that he be tested for them as people with Crohn's are commonly deficient in those and proper supplementation can make a big difference. If they're willing to test for additional vitamin and mineral deficiencies, all the better.

Another option is supplemental or even total enteral nutrition.

We also have a diet forum located here I suggest you check out.

We're here for you and Brian :)

Hi David
Brian has been in agony today. We run a cleaning business which he is finding hard at the moment. He said he has bad pains in the upper chest area.I said go back to doctors .He has an Ulcer there but we don't know much more! He has hardly eat today.Every time he bends down to clean it really hurts him? I think he needs time off! Problem is we are self employed ?Im lost what to do for the best. I think he needs rest. But it will not cure the pain?Is there foods that should be avoided with Ulcers ? He had today tin of mackerel for breakfast, water melon, home made baked beans with soda bread, I am cooking now garlic chicken with spring greens and kurly kale? Thanks for your time. Michelle
