Passing dark coloured scabs

So sometimes I pass these things that are very dark bloody scab looking thing's. My naturopath told me it's the tops of the ulcer coming off or something like that he told me what it's called but I forgot what it was.
Does anyone know what it's called when this happens so I can tell my GI ASAP.
